Safari Fox Body Mustang for Sale on Craigslist

This off-road-ready Fox Body offers a different kind of Mustang fun.

If you think about it, the Fox Mustang and the aircooled Porsche 911 have a lot in common. Now, before you scroll angrily to the comments section, hear us out, OK?

Like the original aircooled Porsche 911’s incredible 34-year run, the original Fox concept was refined and updated over the course of two-and-a-half decades. From the four-eyed cars, to the aero era, to the SN-95 generation, to the final New Edge iteration of the Fox platform, there were numerous changes and updates.

It’s easy for owners of both cars to combine their favorite parts of any number of trim levels and special editions — even decades apart — to create their dream machine. With Singer building incredible retro-styled 911s with more modern underpinnings, we can only hope that the same happens for Fox Mustangs soon. We’re thinking a 1985 Saleen tribute with Terminator underpinnings and interior. Yum.

Alas, it seems like the only trend Porsche 911s and Fox Mustangs are sharing is the Baja trend: jacking the suspension up, fitting big tires and mud flaps, some extra lights, and a roll cage for some high-speed soft-roading. Porsche aficionados call them Safari 911s, so we’re calling this the Safari Fox.

This 1991 convertible started life as a 2.3 auto car. It was replaced with a built 302 with GT40 heads, a B303 cam, and numerous other goodies. Naturally, it’s backed by a T-5. There’s obviously plenty of suspension work, too. The notoriously flexible chassis was beefed up and bolstered for extra rigidity. It’s good to know you won’t (probably) taco this thing when you land your first jump.

The rollbar, spare tire, auxiliary lights, and bolt-on flares absolutely nail the Safari aesthetic. And we’re glad the builder kept the luggage rack on the trunk, too.

If you’re looking for a different kind of Fox, this might be just the ticket. Find it here on Craigslist in Seattle, Washington.
