It would be an impressive kill if you had raced from a dead stop....

done it...those cars CAN launch VERY well, but DONT usually have drivers that KNOW HOW to launch very well. i've taken multiple evo's and an s4 at lights and beaten them to the end of the intersection on my stock tires. this is not to say that they couldn't have burned me doing this, it's just to say that they didn't do it those times.

from a roll, a gt with gears, intake, and a good tune will walk almost any stock or minor-bolt-on evo...its when they start pumping up the boost much that you gotta worry

A flashed Evo VIII or IX with a MBC and methanol injection will walk all but the faster blown GT's.

They are fast cars, and handle great. They are plagued with a drivetrain problems though in the transfer case area.

Also, they are a Mitsubishi and...well...don't expect to get anything fixed under warranty, ever, for anything if you mod your car or keep it stock. Also, don't even go back to the dealer for service.

So many horror stories of Mitsu dealers not keeping the proper fluids on hand for the drivetrain, and when changing it just using what they have, and as a result the stuff blowing. Then the dealers blaming the owners.

You think Ford service is bad sometimes? Try owning an Evo.

That said, I love my GT =)

A bone stock Evo will do a 1.70 60' and 1.60 with a good clutch. Bad news is that a good clutch is $3000.00 plus install in a awd car. The Evo is just not worth the money if you like to drag race.

Fun thing is, if you bump up the boost enough and have a stage 3 clutch, you might not toast your clutch but you'll blow the transfer case

On Saturday night, I met the driver of an Evo VIII which I ended up challenging. At first I said i'll race for $50, then he said $25, and finally he said just do it for fun. I said okay whatever, anyways we are going to hop on the highway and go from a 45 roll off. I did the three honks and let him go before I hit the gas, once I hear his car go I floor it and take about a car length on him at about 60 then by around 75 I won by about half a car length. He had intake, exhaust, and a blowoff valve. I could've done better I just let him take off first.

Evo down
Great kill!

Yup, what everybody else said. Summary. Sure they're fast, very fast, but they are butt ugly, unreliable and very expensive to repair. They have no class at all. In 3 years we will all be drinking coke from the recycled metal pop cans that will come from them. Our 05 / 06 Mustangs will be collectors items in 20 years. Evos will be long forgotten along with the SRT4's and all the other little crap boxes.

seeing that their have been more versions of the evo then of mustangs I highly doubt they will fade out. the clutch problem lies within the pull style clutch instead of a push style. The retaining clip breaks off on hard launches.

I wanted to race from a dead stop, for some reason he is the one that wanted to do a 45 roll off. I also forgot to reflash before racing him because i'd been driving it stop and go traffic for a month and haven't done a second reflash since i've gotten it. I could've done better I feel but most of the Evos at my track have no clue how to launch. The guy I raced said he ran a 13.2 at the track, I had 3 people in my car while he just had himself forgot to add that.
