They're fantastic cars, I got to see a couple up close on the 'ring last weekend:

Well-said Nothsa... I really enjoy my mustang, but I also love imports. I appreciate the bang-for-buck you get with Evo's. They handle extemely well and are very quick. It's great people have pride in their stangs, but sometimes people are so quick to put down other people's cars. It seems that mustang owners as well as the so-called ricers are both equally capable of having the same negative mentality that is complained about so often.

And say what you want about SRT-4's. Like them, hate them, whatever, but don't compare them to Evo's because dollar for dollar, an SRT will beat an Evo every time. Another thing about SRT-4's, they were only made for 3 years, were very affordable so even kids could buy them, henceforth the limited number of them that were made are being totalled by said kids every day, so in 20 years they will either be forgotten, as you have said, or be collectable. One of the two.

Beat them how? Straight line yes, but no way on a track. Evo's and STi's are not drag cars. They are rally cars that are built for the track. Case in point...STi's are severely hampered while drag racing because of the gearing on their 6 speed tranny. They require an extra shift. Also, I don't foresee Dodge Neons on any collectors list.

Anyone see the video clip of the EVO chasing down the Lamborghini Murcielago on a race track? Ridiculous.....granted that was a special edition EVO not for sale in the states.

NEVER did my friend beat me from a dead stop with his modified SRT-4 against my modified WRX. The ONLY way one will come close is with slicks on the front. CHEAP interior plastic, no mufflers, no sound deadening..... CHEAP! Does not compare with the EVO, WRX, or STi.....especially in the rain...

I certainly wouldnt classify my WRX as having any sound deadening qualities. To pass some time yesterday I went out on the Aston Martin site and created my own. The options are staggering. So many colors to choose from and I am talking interior colors. You can customize the seat color, dash color, dash trim color, headliner color, etc. That just goes to show you get what you pay for.

Not hating on the SRT-4's. I think its great that hp enthusiasts have so many choices. Now Dodges replacement for the SRT-4 is going to have 300hp. I remember back in 1997 I thought the M3's were so awesome because they had like 230 hp. hahahaha My how far we have come. Now there are 4 door sedans with 500hp.

What is Auto Ex?
-E
Auto X events are where a group sets up a road course with cones. Sometimes a big parking lot or something like that. Then everyone gets a chance to race around the track and compete for the best times.

I owned a mustang back in college, my last car was a wrx, and my present one is a Legacy GT. I'm planning on going back to a Mustang for nostalgia reasons and because there's something to be said for simplicity, cheaper/easier to find parts down the road, etc, but its not really for performance reasons. A wrx or legacy will hand a mustang its behind off the line bigtime because of the awd, and also has an advantage on many of thr backroads where I live, which tend to have things like loose gravel on curves and such to deal with. They have a huge aftermarket, much like a mustang, are cheap to mod, like a mustang, generally get better mileage, etc. They do what they do differently than a Mustang, but do it well and are worthy of respect (grudging or other wise =) ). It's fine to have pride in your ride--I did with my subaru's, and will with my new mustang. Are there people who "rice out" wrx's and such with loud exhausts and race wildly on the streets? No doubt, but then there are mustang owners that do the same thing.

Personally, I think the different ways they go about making their performance are great--how dull it would be same if everyone was the same. Its those differences that make things interesting.

Umm, you're complaining about a Neon using slicks to beat an AWD car?? That's funny to me. And I said dollar for dollar, which gives and SRT about 10K to play with vrs a stock Evo. Get my point??? And should a car that costs 10K less compare???? Then there's the fact that I would push an SRT before I would drive an Evo or WRX, but that's just me, I won't drive an import. Ever.

Don't get on that arguement about "Imports".... There are more "Imports" being made with quality in America than "American"(including the Mexico and Canada versions) cough, cough, cars being made in America. Except for the Corvette, what other American car is 100% American?

Dude, your attitude is one of the reasons I thought about not buying a Mustang....
