2007 verts- cloth top versus vinyl top
Many of you probably know that for 2007 you can now get a cloth top on the verts. My '05 had the standard vinyl top, my 07 has the new cloth top. The cloth top is really great looking, that was the reason I got it. But it turns out there are some other benefits that make it worth considering:
- Easier to latch. On my 05 the top always stopped just above the header and I had to pull it down to get the latches to engage. This is a common complaint, sounds like everyone with a vinyl top has this but some are worse than others. The cloth top settles right onto the header, no pulling required to latch it.
- Quieter. The cloth top doesn't get any of the "whooshing" sound of wind going over it when traveling at freeway speeds. Not that the 05 was bad, it was impressively quiet. But the 07 is quieter yet.
- No buffeting. Sometimes in the 05 when a semi would go by the air and pressure would buffet the top, that is pretty disconcerting inside!! The 07 cloth top doesn't do that at all.
Also the latches are MUCH smoother, I think the latch design must have changed between 05 and now. My old latches felt like they were scraping metal while the new ones feel like they're on ball bearings.
Some people state that cloth tops are more difficult to maintain. My car spends most of its life garaged and we don't go through harsh winters here so it's not a problem for me, but it might be an issue for others.
Just wanted to mention these things for anyone that is thinking about cloth versus vinyl

RE: 2007 verts- cloth top versus vinyl top
i dont think alot of what you talk about is just improvments made by the cloath top, i think they made improvements to the whole top system. I have the vinyl and it closes no problem nice and smooth and i never have an issue with it. It also latches nice and easy and doesnt sound like metal scraping or anything.
As to the wind noise, well since i have only had the vinyl and i am not sure if it is a difference because of the material or design.

Sorry, had to say it. I wanna see a pic of your car with the top up. I have yet to see the new clothe top.
