problem
All the EPA needs to see is straight pipes, no mufflers, dB level above what is allowed, cats removed, or emmisions that don't meet federal standards and your car is GONE. They won't take it unless they can. You could buy it back at an auction, but most likely they'll give it to some local undercover narcotics cop to drive around (after they make it legal)
Has nothing to do with freedom of choice, it's the law. Your freedom ends where somebody else's freedom begins.
Like Dr. Phil says: "When you choose the behavior, you also choose the consequences." If your car gets taken and they hit your wallet, don't cry like some spoiled six year old and run to mommy and daddy wanting them to buy you another one.

One thing you should really think of is the crazy things that go through peoples minds when they are angry. You may wake up one morning to find some serious damage done to your car, because you decide to have an "obnoxiously" loud exhaust. If it were a track car and not your daily driver, I would tell the neighbors to mind their business, but if it were me that was waken up at 6am everyday, well we will just leave it to the imagination. Do yourself and everyone that lives around you a favor and quiet down the exhaust. I am not saying just completely give in, but work out some kind of compromise.
You don't always know that exact living conditions of people round you. Some could have young children in the house trying to sleep or someone could be working a night shift and trying to get some sleep before the next nights shift. Anyways, be cool, not a tool.

do you peeps really believ your neighbors care that much about you, do you really believe that??? hey man we all got our situations, be they good or bad, my job in life is to live my life, not live my life to make my neighbors easier, i mean i have NEVER asked a thing of my neighbors with or without my mustang, bottom line is we live in america, and i just like you have a choice on many things, we may differ in taste, and that is what makes this country great, i said it bbefore i will say it again, i think his request is rude, and selfish. did younot work hhard for what you have???? are you not proud of it????? like i said make some crazy request of him and see how he reacts...................he will probably tell you to get bent......see my point???? the only personthat cares and takes care of your things is you remember that, peeps dont care if it aint theirs, i know i got a lot of nice stuff, and have seen this first hand. and above all else make HIM PAY for the new exhaust period.......dont you dare do it unless to to by law.

I wonder if your attitude would be different, if saving YOUR life depended on one of those folks, and MY car's loud exhaust prevented them from getting enough sleep to perform their job in a competent manner. :-)
Just something to think about, when you're trying to justify not being a considerate neighbor. :-)
Stangie......I have no problem with you and I don't get bent out of shape on these boards....well because it's the internet and who the F**k cares. But, why are you so adoment about this situation. Do you work for the EPA ? I just think this is dumb how everyones ganging up and taking sides over something so dumb as exhausts. I'm sure was not his intent for this thread but I mean really, let's all just let it go and enjoy our cars catted or un-catted. Either way we're all here to share the joy and love for our cars, not yell and scream and bash one another over stupid emmisions laws. I'm sure there's alot worse things going on in the world than one dude driving his un-catted car in maryland.
How about someone cracks down on the old people driving like tools in Florida, or giving me a ticket for not wearing a seatbelt when a biker is not required to wear a helmet, or supposedly me doin 54 in a 35 with traffic all around me blocking me in and the cop pulling me over 7 miles down the road, because he said college students and mustangs don't mix.(going to court to fight that one next week w/ my lawyer) I mean come on, let's face it, the whole system is flawed it's a lose lose situation for everyone. So let's just all agree to disagree whether it's legal or not.

While I can only speak for myself, the reason I believe this issue tends to divide Mustang owners, is because some feel irresponsibility in performing mods reflects poorly on ALL Mustang owners ... not just those who choose to violate the laws ... which are pretty clear concerning cats.
For example ... you talk about fighting a ticket where a cop made a reference to a college student and a Mustang don't mix. Well ... as much as it was unfair to you ... that cop had to draw that stereotype from somewhere. It probably came from someone who was acting like a jack@** ... and you paid the price for that person's irresponsibility. The same goes for pulling cats off a car ... where, somewhere along the line, a person with a legal aftermarket setup will get hassled by the EPA (or cops) because they ran into another Mustang owner who didn't respect federal clean air laws. So ... EVERY Mustang owner gets the label ... unfairly, I might add.
It probably wouldn't bother so many people if illegal exhaust setups weren't condoned ... and often encouraged ... as much as they are around here. Just look at the number of posters using offroad pipes ... it's not a small number.
Personally, I really don't give a rat's behind ... because my car is legal and I won't have to pay any fines if my car ever comes into question. Quite frankly, I think it's a waste of money to buy an offroad system, when the average driver doesn't have the skills to consistently harness the few extra HP a catless setup will give them on a hobby level. It's all about stupid bragging rights ...which, to me, isn't worth the involved risk of fines and having your car impounded.
Now ... I'm not saying you are one of those individuals ... just explaining why others may think removing the cats is pretty stupid.
See I understand what youre saying, but what I dont understand is why these people would pick out owners of BRAND NEW cars (which clearly wont be emitting mass amounts of harmful gases, regardless of whether its an offroad system or not), instead of going after people who drive ancient dodge ram deisels that leave massive clouds of black smoke everywhere, and dumptrucks that could hide small cities in its wake of exhaust. Honestly, the construction transport vehicles around here could drowned out my SLP's at WOT simply by accelerating from a red light. There are many many bigger fish to fry, why come after some people just trying to scavenge a few extra HP? Sorry, I just dont understand the logic in that... Im betting they could make more money from the fines they would get from inspecting a trucking companies emissions than they would in 6 months of normal cars

I've seen federal oversight agencies at work. They fine a company for violations. Company goes to their respective political connections, and has fines reduced or thrown out by political appointee running said agency. Company now pays no fines, or pennies on the dollar.
So ... who are they left to come after? The slob in the broken down truck, who can't afford to buy something newer ... let alone pay a fine? Or, do they come after you and I, who obviously have the money to buy a nice car, and have enough extra change to add some aftermarket upgrades?
We're targets of opportunity ... enough money to afford the fine, and not connected enough to get out of paying it.
As the old saying goes ... BOHICA!!!
(Bend Over, Here It Comes Again!)
