+1 An arming switch, in an out of the way place, should be used

ORIGINAL: 1fast05GT

I think that part shouldn't be even an issue if you have an arming switch in line with the cruise switch, which you should to avoid activating the selenoids by accident. I'm going to use the cruise switch for my line locks and I will cut the cable to the cruise off circuitry since I never use the off function anyways.

Are you familiar with the din bouble flare in the link I posted? That is the type of fittings/lines used on our cars. the double flare in my picture is what comes standard on all pre-made brake lines that i've seen. I got those at napa and they all had the same fittings. If you want the correct fittings you'll have to flare your own lines and buy the correct nuts or use one of the 05+ specific kits which may or may not contain the right fittings and which only come with one solenoid from what i've seen. The adapters I used are for double flared brake line, but if you were to see the adapter you would under why you need tape on the threads that screw into the ports. The ports on the abs and on the solenoids for that matter don't have a raised seat for a double flared line like the adapters do, they have a tapered conical seat for the bubble flare in the link.

I'll post a picture tomorrow of the inside of one of the other fittings supplied with the summit line lock installation kit so everyone can see the volcano looking protrution that actually goes inside the brake line.

here's a good example of the bubble flare and double flare. The stock nuts look just like the one in the picture and of course the other looks like the one I took a pic of.

By the way that guy is using a compression fitting to join two brake lines, which is a bad idea. Even worse is they aren't DOT fittings so they can easily leak. The difference between a hardware store compression fitting and DOT approved compression fitting is small, but makes a huge difference when it comes to proper sealing.

I just thought of something. For the automatic guys you could put the solenoids on the rear brake lines and push the button before stepping on the brakes. Of course you'd have to keep your foot on the brake, but since there's no clutch pedal it's not a big deal. Not sure if this makes it any easier though.

You da man! I wasn't familiar with the bubble flare! (they just gotta keep changin things)

There are suppliers who carry pre-made bubble flair lines, even if NAPA doesn't. They are metric threads, which is why you had the fitment issues with your new lines.

Guess I'll have to look for a bubble flare tool now!

Thanks man, Great job!

Newbie question. What do line locks do? What are they used for?

A line lock is an electrically-operated valve that is used to temporarily hold the front brakes of the car "on" so that you can stop the car from rolling when you do a burn out.

You step on the brake pedal which applies the brakes. Then you turn the line lock on. When you take your foot off the pedal the line lock keeps the front brakes applied so you car can't move. Then you can do an easy burnout without the car moving. When you're done, turn the line lock off and normal operation of the brakes is restored.

Sometimes they are also used as a "roll control" to prevent the car from moving forward past the staging beams at the starting line.

Or backward as I learned the hard way, you get no time if you roll backward.

From what I read online a bubble flare is what you get after the first step in making a double flare, but i've never used a flare tool so i'm not sure if that's correct. I'm going to look around online for some premade lines with a bubble flare and the correct fittings. All I need is a 30 inch and 40 inch line.

Bubble flares are commonly used on European cars and on newer American cars (from what I gathered). I also read that reusing a bubble flare shouldn't be done more than twice, after that you should make a new flare.
