Twenty years from now your car will be a collectors item. I find it hard to believe that the engine was mounted in the car and no one noticed. Maybe it was going to be a Ford contest, Like the ***** Wonka thing. "A Mustang with a golden engine bay" instead of a golden ticket. I've never seen gold primer. Doesn't mean it doesn't exist. Just saying I've never seen it. It almost sounds like the robot painter ran out of paint in the middle of the blast. Still doesn't explain why the engine got mounted and no one noticed. This is just like those "mistakes" made in the original Mustangs that now fetch top dollar. Maybe the car was suppossesd to be a Ford test "mule" that made its way through the line and on to a train. It was a test car that had the engine bay left unpainted so they could see how the 5.4 would fit. Yeah , that's what I'm going with lol.

I think if most of us checked we would find that our undercarriage is not fully painted the car color. As for the engine compartment it almost looks like the spray guns were out of paint or not functioning properly. Still this is no reason it got by Quality Control. If you look at it close the color looks like gold in areas because of the misting of the black over the primer color which is shown the best in the undercarriage photo and probably the lighting in the photo itself. It also looks like it has a clear coat over the engine compartment paint because of the shine which would also give the primer a gold tint. Your car must have been built on a Friday. Good Luck I know I would not be very happy either.

My engine compartment and undercarriage are not painted black like the rest of my car. They are a gold color with some black overspray. I did not notice when I bought it as it was new and I test drove a GT before buying the GT/CS. I just took my car back to the dealer to check other 07's and they were all painted.

The dealership is going to check with Ford, but there is not much they are going to be able to do besides give me a new one are they??? Anyone had this problem? It's not just one spot - it's the whole engine compartment and everything under the car.

On a positve note I just had it dyno'd and it posted 287RWHP and 308 Ft LB of Tourque....

you could always put this on the hood and tell everyone you bought it from Burt Reynolds (JK, someone already used the wonka thing)

I have never seen this on a Mustang, but, My wifes 06 Escape looks something like that under the hood. The engine compartment looks as if it has grey primer instead of white (the body color) I asked the dealer why the engine compartment was not sprayed and he could not give me an answer. We checked the othe Escapes on the lot and they were in fact the same. Im not sure why ford does this, but apparently its not unheard of. My Mustang on the other hand is Legend Lime Green inside the entire engine compartment and the full length of the undercarrage.

They probably won't give you a new car, I've seen this on the net with all makes and models where they forgot to paint certain sections, such as the spot where the door opens by the hinges. The problem you face is if you try and sell it, a smart person will assume it's been in an accident.

That's my concern. If I was looking at it used I would think it was painted after an accident. While it is not the way it is supposed to be, it does not look bad in person. I like the car too much, so I may ask for the hit in depreciation or what it would cost them to pull everyting and repaint, along with some kind of extended warranty on the body that covers corrosion just in case.

It does look clear coated as 05 Retro mentioned in the above thread.

Black PhantomGT I'm ordering the TA emblem now!

I'll keep everyone posted.

Honestly, a cosemetic goof up from the factory cannot be worth any money in the long run. There would be no way to prove that your vehicle is a legitmate Ford error to a collector. The depreciation hit and headaches down the road when you try to sell it far outweigh any collector benefit that you could get for your vehicle.

You should make a thread about your car on every Ford or Mustang forum you can find. Print out the first page and take it to the Ford dealership and show them that you intend to document online how your dealership decides to solve this problem. The dealership is also somewhat at fault for this too. There is probably some sort of delivery inspection that the vehicle must pass before the dealership accepts the vehicle into its inventory. Ford and your dealership messed up big and having your car sent back to get the engine pulled, get the engine bay repainted, and renting you a car for about a week should not be a problem for them.

I looked at some exhaust install photos that people posted and you can see that most of the undercariage has no color other than near the edges where it would get the overspray. I know that Ford is not the only one that does the undercarriage this way. Alot of car manufacturers dip the bodies in an electro-static bath where the primer is applied before painting. It would be nice if some fellow Members take a look at their own cars and post what they find, they might be suprised at what they find down under. The engine compartment is a different story it should definately be painted the color of the car. Here's Mine. I hope this makes you laugh a little. I wouldn't consider it a cosmetic goof I would consider it A BIG FUC_UP.

Perhaps this is an example of why Ford no longer uses the slogan "Quality is Job 1."

Absolutely appalling.
