Thanks for all the feedback....what about passing emissions tests....will the tune/cai hurt?
no way in the world. The only way you'll run into emissions problems is if you get some longtube headers and an x pipe or if you get an x pipe without cats. Basically, something that you are not even coming close to doing when replacing the air box for a CAI. Trust me the cai and tune are an EXTREMELY basic mod and your definitely looking into it too much. [8D]

CAI and Tune is a must for these cars. Lean, maybe if you install a CAI that needs a tune and you don't get a tune or a bad tuner. I bought my Xcal from brenspeed and definitley recommend them. Also, if you do install their CAI and Tune, get a dyno run and you are running lean. You could fax them your dyno run and i know for sure they will set you up another tune to download to your tuner to install on your car. and it should be free.

This is not a simple yes or no answer. You see the C&L CAI and Tune are not CARB Approved so technically if your in California. Which i am assuming you are based on the question, then you could potentially fail for these mods. I firmly believe that the Sniffer portion of the test would pass but not the visual. Also I have heard that some of the OBDII monitors are tuned off when the tune is done but I have not been able to confirm this. If that is true that portion of the test would also fail in California. So it kind of depends on where you live and what kind of emissions testing they do in that state.

IMO, it dosn't matter who or where you get your CAI and Tunes from, because these cars are so touch to air flow changes that a Dyno tune is a MUST!. I have the GMS CAI and a SCT tuner fromBrenSpeed. Had the car Dyno'd a month laterto check A/F ratio, and itis was running lean about 15%, now this isn't bad, but itsnot good either, these cars come out of the box around 12.5 to 13.3 and thats where its needs to be for Max Performance.16% to 17% isengine damaging.Don't get me wrong, I love BrenSpeed and will continue to buisness with them, but my point is no matter Who's tunes it is, itdoesn't mean your safewithout having it dyno'd to be checked.

Do all performance shops have dynos? And what might it cost me to verify the mixture of my 91-Octane tune with K & N CAI?
