I almost creamed my wheels when I went to see my daughter at college... Fortunately, the KDSW rimguard worked, I scuffed the tire, but the wheel was untouched...
I've got KDWs as well and as soon as I heard the crunch I thought of that rim guard edge they have and hoped they did their job, but alas, no such luck for this "Helen Keller". [8D]

Thanks for all the tips guys. I'm pretty hesitant to do anything at all to the rim because, having never worked on chrome before, I'm pretty sure I'd screwitup somehow. I think I'm either going to leave it alone or take some of the advice here and call for prices on repair.

As for whether they're aluminum or not, I don't know. I bought them at American Muscle.com, so do any of you know whether they DD Bullits are aluminum or not?
yea how about this, less than a year i bought my car with $2000 rims and they are peelin on me and the dealer is being a pain about fixin the problem so i called the ford company and they are lookin into it

It's a feature on the BF Goodrich KDWS oem tires, and maybe others. Essentially, it's a thick bead of rubber around the tire close to the rim that will take the hit before the rim does. As I've mentioned, it actually works for a minor curb hit, but apparently not for a major one...

Just put a magnet on to see if steel or not. Aluminum is non-magnetic.

Heck yeah baby! Then all I'd need to do is find some white walls to go with 'em! [:'(]

I just noticed a scratch on mine as well and I haven't curbed it at all. Turns out when I went into the touchless car wash that tire alignment device that you pull into scratched the lip of my driver side front rim. Talk about a lesson learned the hard way. It isn't noticeable if you're not looking closely but like Jay said ... I know every time I wash my wheels I'm gonna cringe. No more touchless car wash I guess. Man, I'm running out of washing options so I guess it's plain old water, elbow grease and drying by hand.

Go to a Pep Boys or something like that and get some blind spot mirrors. The bigger the better. Put them on the lower outermost part of your side mirrors. Not only do they allow you to see cars in your blind spot, but you can see your back wheel when parking on a curb. Its a cheep fix. Maybe $4 for both.
