At21,{now 45},
Both my first Mustang and girlfriend are long gone,
DAMN, I miss that car,
This man has wisdom.

Is she asking for the two of you to get a place, or for you to just move out of your parents house. Those are two totally different things which mean different thought processes. If its a place for the two of you, then rent should be split 50/50... not 95% you and 5% her so she can keep up with her spending habits. If she just wants you to move out of your parents house, that's a lil ridiculous. No offense, but you're only 21. You have a long time of paying mortgages or rent ahead of you. No need to rush it. If you're comfortable where you are, enjoy being young and relatively carefree. You should not be in any rush to grow up, and sell off things you enjoy.

Bro listen! I am 43yrs old and I don't know everything...that's for sure. One thing that I do know is that you have to make yourself happy first. You have to look out for number 1! If you really want to keep your stang...then keep it. If you want to stay with your girl then stay with her, she should understand that you need to have something that makes you happy and something that you enjoy doing. Follow your instincts. You can replace the car and you can replace the girl.

There are ways to do both (keep car and move), by saving on day-to-day costs, by taking on a second part-time job, or both. When a person truly wants to do something, they find a way to do it.
+1

Book I just finished reading stated almost exactly that. Take the expenses for your car and anticipated cost of living after moving out, find outhow muchyou're short from your current earnings, and develop a way to at least balance them and push yourself to achieve it (Wouldn't rely on lottery as an option). Getting started on this now can change your perspective on things, and make you very successful as you get older.

yeah, that's what I try to explain to her. Really, I would be happy with just a fast car to work on as a hobby and have fun with. Its not the end of the world to have to sell it. I'll just buy an older one and fix it up some. Then someday in the future I'll buy a nice new one again. I mean, I'm only 21, I have more important things right now in life to plan before making a stupid move like trying to afford a $20,000 car. bleh. everyone makes mistakes I guess right?
**** that you may not even make it with her. Keep the car longer and see what happens.

Little update, I've decided to sell it unfortunatly. Kinda sucks, but I'll just buy a nice new one some day when I'm settled down.

That sucks.

Remember, based on statistics, there is a less than 4% chance you'll end up marrying this girl, considering your age and upcoming experience and life changes.

Hopefully you don't regret this when, like blueoval guy above, you have neither in the end.

But if its for you then thats good you based it off of yourself.

Good luck young grasshopper!
