I went to a local cruise-in with my Maverick today. There were 700 cars there including 3 Shelby GT500's ... all of them red with white stripes. So I'm there scoping out this one guys Shelby real close to see how the front end was all put together. He comments to me ... you're the guy with the Maverick right? I say yeah and start telling him the story about my Screaming Yellow V6 almost getting totaled and the body shop ordering all Shelby GT500 parts for me. He then says "so your building a Shelby Clone? That pretty cool ... Here let me go open up the trunk for you that way you can see if there are any differences back there you need to know about." ... Pretty cool guy huh? He had gotten the car as a XMAS present from his wife and this is only the 3rd time he had it out. He opens up the trunk for me and asks me what is this big thing over here? I tell him it's the subwoofer for his Shaker 1000 stereo .. he had no idea. I'm glad it wasn't one of you anti-POSER guys from the board that owned the car ... you would have probably laughed, spit in my face and kicked me in the nuts if I was scoping out your car for my clone ...

OK drama queen, take it easy! Wow, sorry, just a little pissy tonight. I think what most of the people here are saying is that the car will be great with the GT500 body pieces on it, but putting the Cobra emblem on the car just says that you would rather have the GT500 than your car. I know, duh right. Have pride in what you own though. There is no shame in your car, it was beautiful before and I am sure that it will be even better soon, just don't try too hard to make it something it is not.

Everytime this subject comes up about snakes it brings out the best in people. It does seem that it is that fine line where people have the most difficulty with. Im sure back in the 60's this was going on too and everybody still did what they wanted to their car. For me Im playing Switzerland (nuetral) about this. But just out of curiosity how would some of the GT guys feel about a 6'er with a GT grill and emblems. I'll bet you can get the same kind of arguments, and would it really bother you knowing the difference.

I think its just wrong. I accually saw a Sentra the other day in a Burger King with a Cobra Emblem on the side. My son and I laughedour asses off. Why not just De-Badge and keep everyone wondering? But you do what you want.

Great thread....you can see how many label reading yuppie jerks there really are around here.

@Dm you are doing good with this tire azz argument. Its yours do what you want. Its free and hell lots of people are doing it.
The really lame challanges come with those who say its bad to do it to a V6...that is rubbish! No matter what motor it is his car let him be, he owns it in case you didn't know.
Hell how many GT fella's have the pony badge on the side of the car and think that is ligit....it isn't! There is a model for the Pony! Its called a V6 4.0.

Its your car do what you want with it.
@mellowyellow- nice car and great job sticking to your guns as well.

imho: Put the emblem on your car, but don't be surprised if you hear the words poser and / or ricer. It's a simple as that. It is your car, and if you like it, that's all that counts. But again, you can't make a fuss about people calling you a poser / ricer either. Because slapping a badge on a car that resembles, but not is, the car that the badge represents, will get you those comments.

About the emblem: Good job! I wonder how it's going to hold up against the elements!
