just checked the Escort website. the new one is called the Passport 9500i. looks really nice, but it's $450. i think you might as well go V1 and drop an extra $100.

the passport 9500i is the same strength as the 8500 x50. The only difference is it has GPS built in it. It will sense "false" signals from alarms, construction signs, auto doors etc. and never false on that frequency at that location again which is sweet in itself. It also has speed and sound sensitve controls. The louder it is in your car or the faster you are going the louder the alert. The 8500 x50 at $300 is a great detector. As far as mounting, you can get the hardwire cord (no cig. lighter plug in) for $15 to wire to the ignition so it will come on and go off with the key. Mount it as high as you feel comfotable so it can see through the rear glass for the 360 degree detection. Putting it low reduces distance and almost eliminates rear detection. If you end up with a windshield mount detector, stay with passport or beltronics. (both owned by same company)

Go with the valentine one.. honestly the best IMO. Every car that comes into my dealership with a detector has a v1... Put it above the rear view mirror and hard wire it. I am not sure how much the little dots in the middle of the windsheild will affect it? I dont think they can be ttaken off.

I bought the best Cobra that Radio Shack offered, it was around $215-225, can't remember exactly.

Anyhow, it has 360 protection, detects all the bands plus laser, stealth mode, voice alert, compass and voltmeter.

It has already paid for itself many times over and I am very satisfied with it as an alternative to one of the higher end, more expensive models.

I have the 12 band cobra. don't have the money to drop on a valentine or passport. but for a $150 radar detector it has saved me more times than not. it can not work when the cop is sitting with it off and turns in it once you get in view. caught like this twice..

Lets just say this. I was 1 point away from losing my drivers license about 5 years ago. Got a valentine 1 havent had a ticket since. In myopinion its the best money can buy. You wont know how you lived without the arrows.

As with everything in life you get what youpay for.

Some people swear by passport, but all of my friends ended up getting rid of theirs, becuase they liked my V1 better. To each his own.

Asfar as mounting I just put it on the windshield as normal. Cops in FL dont care,I seesoccer moms with radar detectors here.

Thanks for the photos, I will be looking into either the passport or the V1, I will probably get one I can get the best deal on.

Radar detectors only really work if the cops really don't give a crap about you in the first place. Especially Highway Patrol are trained to determine your speed by their current steady speed. If you do get caught, you will be busted for your radar detector (if it's illegal in your state), jammer (if applicable), and speeding[8D]! I have quite a few cop friends, and I'm on the way to be one myself.

Anyway yes, cops in FL don't care because as of yet, they are not illegal here (I live in FL, and I too am addicted to the gas pedal). By the way, the department in Palm Beach County actually has a black Mustang GT undercover car on the highway, so if you're around the area I'd watch yourself! I think you can look up online somwhere, where they are illegal and not, although you guys will probably use them anyway.

Besides, don't you check your side and rear-view mirrors? Keep an eye out, that's how they find you in the first place!
