Best navigation unit..
tomtom sucks. and portable gps/nav's are kinda lame.
If going with built in get a d3. Save money off the z1/z2 and get a ipd for music storage. Much easier to load a ipod then the internal drive on a z1/z2. Only draw back of d3 is nav disk has to be the the drive when inputing a route, it can be taken out however while driving the route. If you don't want to spring in for a built in unit get a tomtom. I got a bunch of info on the d3 from the avic forums goto http://www.avic411.com. If you go pioneer be sure to get the bluetooth adapter and ipod cable, both are well worth it.
Go w/ an in-dash setup please! You will not regret it. The portables are okay, especially if you use different cars quite often. But the nice big touch screen that is integrated with the dash is really the way to go. My ipod plugs directly in, charges it as well. The kenwood unit is hard drive based so no nav disc and it really seems pretty up to date as far as I know.

I have the shaker 1000 and only changed the head unit and I am very happy with the performace of the subs etc.

here is a dumb question, since I'm happy with the performance of my shaker 1000
and my budget only allows for a head unit upgrade, will the rest of my system still work with these aftermarket head units (like my subs)>?

Pioneer AVIC Z1 or Z2 cant go wrong lots of cool features a little pricey but well worth it thats what we roll with and love it.
