im suprised to see no one has went the carputer route and wanted to build a custom pc for their car. I love the street deck software and the hard drive capabilities for mp3 as well as bluetooth and voice recognition. They sell prebuilt ones too like the infill g4, it's amazing what it comes with. A double din in dash personal pc with streetdeck

No to change subjects but where are you all (07MustangGT_girl)getting these "GT" and "Auto start" buttons for the center dash above the Nav unit? I know they are most likely not fuctional but they look cool.

too bad! I was hoping there would be recommendations for GPS units that were affordable! What have you all been using for plain GPS units? Hopefully under $300. Where are they mounted?
I have been needing just a plain GPS because when I travel I want to know where the auxilary roads are. Especially here in Calif, with the fires, truck crashes, etc. We need to be able to just look at a GPS and see that there's a road that I can use to get off the freeway.
Saw a Tomtom ONE XL at Best buy for just $299.
I bought a Garmin C340 for my parents (no bluetooth friendly phones), and a C550 for my girlfriend. The difference in the screen is obvious; the C550 has much better glare reduction. The touchscreen interface is really easy to use; within minutes of opening it, I was putting in several addresses to save as favorties. The antenna in the C550 was also much quicker to locate the car as well; the C340 took a minute or two. The window suction attachement works well, and the battery life is definitely very long! We drive most of the time without it plugged in, and only plug in to charge it when not driving. The voices for the driving instructions are clear, and there are British & Australian voices (man & woman) as well to change the accent. Calling out the streetnames is *very* usefull, even if they mis-pronounce occasionally.

Bluetooth works well with phones. Sound quality depends on how loud the car is in the first place, but is generally pretty clear. Once the Garmin has been accepted by the phone, it will have a 'call' button for points of interest that have a phone number. The calling interface is simple too.

I'm quite happy with either of them. The C340 was ~$250 while the C550 was ~$350.

I agree, it's not just that I have one, but a Z1/2 is about as good as they get. Sure, the D3 has similar functionality but that whole disk-in-disk-out shuffle is just retarded.
This is why it is best to get the ipod interface. The cd sawp issue isn't bad if you do this (I never take mine out check the avic forums other d3 users do the same). I never play cds in the car anymore now that I have a ipod, and for the extra 1k you can get a few ipods. Both pioneers are very nice though. THe eclipse is a nice unit also. I haven't used the kenwood so I can't comment on it.

I chose the D3 for a couple of reasons. The XM interface, bluetooth support, iPod integration, ability to have both XM and Sirius modules attached and the dedicated volume ****. I much prefer the **** type volume control. Here isa pic installed:
