So I ordered an Automatic but....
I think you guys convinced me, I am going to call ford tomorrow and hopefully i can still change my car, I should be able to change it sice i dont have a build date yet. I dont see why I cant be able to drive a stick if everyone else can do it.
I've had numerous manual cars including sports cars and muscle cars. I have no regrets with my auto GT. Manuals are a PITA in traffic, my knee used to ache sometimes. Anyone who says "you'll regret it", is speaking for themselves only. I went through a period of many years when I swore by manuals, just like most of these guys. Also, this is an enthusiasts website, what answer did you expect?
I would recommend thinking long and hard about the type of driving you're going to do and decide if you want a cool car that you can cruise, or if you want to be involved with shifting it. I love that my auto GT can be leisurely cruised around town in, but if I nail the gas it goes nuts. I don't miss shifting at all frankly.

Couldn't have siad it better myself...!
You are young. Get the manual. Shifting gears is not a pain. You will master it in no time. If you are getting the car as a hotrod you will wished you had. Nothing wrong with owning a automatic GT though.

I grew up and learned driving manual...then went to owning an auto for a year. After that, I HAD to have a manual and bought the stang. I've never complained or missed driving an auto. Once, you've done it for so long...it becomes preferrable and FUN
This decision is up to you of course. Go with your instinct!!!

I have to disagree. I have driven manual stuff for 40 years, and at my age, it's auto or no go. I just got tired of having to shift all the time. There gets to be point in your life, when the mid life crisis is over and you just look forward to relaxing and kicking back.
Heh, yeah I'm 33 and I'm already over the manual thing. 15+ years of it was enough. I am as proficient driving a manual as anyone on these boards, I guarantee it. However I like my autos these days. Besides, the car shifts faster than anyone I know ever could.

I drove manual bimmers for over 30 years, and am also just as proficient (if not more so!) than most people on these boards.
In fact, after I bought the GT, my left foot was still working the phantom clutch for about a week! LOL
Believe me when I say that once you get it out of your system (which many of the younger MF members have obviously not had a chance to do), you'll understand exactly what Mudflap, GidyupGo, barryg and I are talking about!
My brother has a manual 1999 stang, and he says he likes my auto more because it pulls better and smoother under heavy accleration from a dig.
with the lane changing thing, I do what others have mentioned...tap the overdrive button with my pinky, then romp on the gas and off I fly. I love my auto

Funny that the only guy that's really made a crack about the auto in mine has a powerglide in his drag car??? I bit my tongue.
