The funny part besides getting involved in this thread, is the number of people defending the AT. I guess there will always be ten percenters out there.
Heh, I bought my Mustang from a very large dealership and they had about 20 autos and 1 manual. This was the case at the other two dealerships I had visited beforehand as well. I guess I'm not sure who the 10%-ers are, but I was under the impression the auto outsells the manual cold. This is a performance oriented site, so of course you're going to find a larger percentage of people wanting a manual. After driving stick for 15-17 years, I can honestly say theres really nothing mythical or special about it. Its a preference, and thats it.
Autos are easier to drive.

I still prefer manual. I just have more control over the trans. Computers are not infalable. An example of this is while driving my work truck up a steep mountain my speed drops 20 MPH before it even considers downshifting.....

Well i BOUGHT a GT with a manual trans and have regretted it. It was my first ever manual and i actually got the car a week ago Friday. I've been driving it and just don't enjoy it at all and wish i would of gotten an Automatic. So now the car has less than 100 miles on it and i'm either trading it in for selling it. I've already talked to the dealership and they'll do a trade in for either a V6 with the same options(which is almost everything) and in the end it will cost me $15 a month less. Or i'll be selling it privately, i posted it in the selling section on this site. It's not that i can't drive it, because i've been driving it fine, but the it's fun to drive part of it just isn't there for me. I feel it's more of a chore to drive the stick than a fun experience. I made the mistake of listening to others and telling me how easy it was, how fun it was, and how it's the best option. Well for me it wasn't the best option and now i might have to suck it up and take a loss of $$ or just downgrade to a V6.

My advice to you is DO WHAT YOU WANT, don't let others influence you as it could lead to the same mistake i made. All i know is if i got the Auto to begin with i woudn't of regretted my decision.

And with a Brenspeed 93 tune (or probably BAMA, too, but I have Brenspeed), you can peel out in 1st, peel 2nd, and scratch 3rd.
Does that tune require 93 octane from that point on?
no my 87 tune will scratch 3rd

I grew up and learned driving manual...then went to owning an auto for a year. After that, I HAD to have a manual and bought the stang. I've never complained or missed driving an auto. Once, you've done it for so long...it becomes preferrable and FUN This decision is up to you of course. Go with your instinct!!!

I have to disagree. I have driven manual stuff for 40 years, and at my age, it's auto or no go. I just got tired of having to shift all the time. There gets to be point in your life, when the mid life crisis is over and you just look forward to relaxing and kicking back.

Growing old is required! Growing up is strictly optional!

Good luck with your decision. There is really no wrong one.
Autos are nice for just cruising.
Manuals are nice when you want to be "involved".

Only you can decide which is more important to you.

Ok guys so I went and drove a manual today and I love it. I am still not the best at driving stick but I only stalled it once today, due to my nervously shaking leg. But anyways, Since I have always wanted a stick and this one was fun to drive I decided that this was the way I was going to go. I called my dealer today in hopes to change my order to a manual, since I still have no build date. He told me that he cannot change anything because the process is in or something. Is this true that you cant change it even though you dont have a build date or is he full of s*** and just to lazy to change the order?

I dont know on Fords. Ive always bought used or off the lot (Although it took a long search to find the right car) accepting one F350 and I didnt need to change it. On GM you can change it untilitsscheduled to be built at least on Corvettes. I suspect he is giving you a hard time because sticks are usually on restriction and he knows it will take longer to get it.

Ask him to "Swap" cars with you. IE he takes your car as a lot car and moves you back in line to the next car that can still be changed. You then "respec" that car like you want it. It might be a little longer wait but get what you want.

Like I said a couple of posts above only you can decide whats truly right for you.
Manual or Auto.

That's good to hear Reaper, you did the right thing test driving it first, that was the mistake i made as i never test drove it or attempted stick before i bought the car. I hope everything works out for you.
