I've seen this question asked a couple times in the forums, but I haven't seen a definitive answer for it yet:
Is the 500 Watt Amp in the head unit or is it located somewhere else in the car?
If it is located elsewhere, does the head unit and amp need to communicate somehow?
To make the question simpler: If I replace the head unit, will the 500 watt amps still work?
