Default Electrical system question

I have a question about the turn signals on our cars. My front directionals are not working and the "blink rate" on the dash is much faster than normal. The rear directionals, tail lights and brake lights all work fine.

I have checked all of the bulbs front and rear and I dont have any burnt out bulbs, so I was thinking it was a relay, but I have read on here that the '05-'08 Mustangs have their directionals controoled by the computer and dont use relays.

It's a PIA to get time to take it to the dealership, especially for something that should be very simple.Anyone have anysuggestions?

Check if they flash when the Hazzards are turned on.
Then check and see if your passengers side floor
board/carpet/felt liner is wet. The SJB controls the
turn signals and just about everything else besides
the engine and its locatedon the passengers side
under the kick panel. S197 stangs have been known
to leak and short out the SJB. Bad news.
Otherwise, I would be checking all the grounding points
for the front wiring harness.
Then its off to check EVERY associated fuse for the turn
signals. These could be located on the SJB or BEC under
the hood.

If all the fuses are good, its time for a trip to the Stealership. [:@]

157db,

Thanks for the reply. I checked with the hazards on, no blink up front. Rear lights blink the outer two bulbs on both sides.

It's not the dreaded water leak shorting out SJB, because I had the leak repaired last summer. Mine was a leak between the windshield and the cowl on the passenger side. Been bone dry since they sealed it up. I did check the pad under the passenger side carpet just to be sure it hasnt come back.

Is the SJB diagram in the user manual?

So you have HAD the leak. Maybe SJB corrosion damage was started
then and its just now starting to show up?
The SJB or Smart Junction Box as it is also known
has to be replaced as an assembly and programmed
at the Stealership. [:@]

And another

No internal wiring diagrams of the SJB in the workshop manual. [:@]
But it shows how and where the lights are connected.
Both fronts not working at the same timemakes me think bad ground.
Check for voltage at the SJB connector when the turn signals or
hazards are on?

That is possible, but seems doubtful. The leak was fixed way back last spring. I think that the idea of a bad ground is the more likely culprit. Thanks for the diagrams, I'll check it out.

You should check you blinker fluid level...... that would be my guess

I thoughta fast signal in the dash was a tell tale sign that the either the bulbs were toast of the relay , I dunno Im tired time for bed
