HELP!! Throwing codes...running lean
acascianelli-- i have a C&L intake w/ the predator tuner..i think the problem was that i wasn't loading the C&L street intake into the tuner...there was a tune on it for another intake...so last night i went out there and loaded C&L and so far, no problems..i keep looking for that dreaded engine icon, that doesnt even look like an engine *or whatever its supposed to be* and its not on...so, so far, im happy.and I LOVE MY SOUND....a little raspy but it sounds mean and i get A LOT more looks now...

But now that I know you're running the canned Diablosport tune, I feel obligated to say that I HIGHLY recommend buying a Bamachips tune. They're only $50 right now, and you will feel a big improvement.
see, i was debating on getting a PERSONAL tune for my car...is there that much of a difference between a 'canned' tune and a personal tune from one of our vendors?? can you please explain..cause i have heard different stories..also, i have 93 octane here...so should i be lookin for a 93 race tune, 93torque tune? etc....i am confused when it comes to stuff like that..(my car is not heavily modified)
thank you!
thank you!

Whoever said too low of octaine will cause a lean condition was completely talking out of their rear end... Also, seriously..I have had enough of this Myth that you need to run your car completely dry on gas, remove the tank, purge it with flame, have it blessed by an oldpriest and a young priest and THEN fill up with your new octaine otherwise your going to blow your engine. Seriously folks... do you really think the stock knock sensors and the entire timing logic of the PCM are so totally incapable of dealing with changes in fuel? If thats the case, then what happens when you get a tank of gas that is lower quality, even if it is still the same 93 octaine?

I have 93 octane available in my area also, but I chose to go with a 91 octane tune. I don't want to be caught not being able to find 93 octane ever and I was willing to sacrifice the little hp that the extra 2 octane gives.
As for Bamachips tunes; the torque tune optimizes for low end torque, the performance tune optimizes high end power, and the race tune combines them both and sharpens the throttle and automatic transmission shifting even more. I recommend the race tune.
I garantee that the $50 you spend on a Bamachips race tune will be worth it.

This is exactly what the problem was.. The MAF size on the C&L is alot larger than than the stock MAF. Because it's larger, the PCM thinks it's seeing X amount of air, when in fact it's getting X+Y amount of air... More air, without more fuel = lean.

That was me and I frequently talk out of my ***. That being said, running the wrong octane in a tuned car will ping it to death and if the knock sensor can't keep up with it, I'm sure the higher than normal cylinder pressures will FUBAR it.
Hello Matt,
I have read all through your post concerning the error codes, and also the replies. To put everything more clearly, You have the Predator Diablo Sport tuner, and you are running the C&L Street Cold Air Intake. I hope that everything is running without codes now. But remember, any tune you choose to use that is already on the tuner must be a C&L Street Cold Air intake tune. That is the correct category. And once you click on the C&L Street tunes category, you should be given choices in this category of different octane levels: 87, 91, 93.
But some tuners don't come with all three choices. You may have only two: 87, 91, ?????
So the most important factor in setting up you CAI is, The CAI that you are using is the STREET CAI, not the RACER. YES, it does make a difference. I originally purchased the RACER CAI setup, but I was having problemswith the plastic CAI with it warpping at the throttle body. Brenspeed was totally a pleasure to work with on my exchange. Brent said he has never seen a Plastic CAI (RACER) warp like mine did. In fact, he sent the Racer CAI to C&L for confirmation of a faulty unit and even C&L said they have never seen one do this as well.
But like I said above, Brenspeed was GREAT, Brent sent me the other STREET CAI right away and didn't require the bad one sent back first, He just asked me to use the box that the new STREET CAI came inand anew UPS lable that he sent as well. I know that there are allot of RACER CAI units out there that are working excellent, and maybe mine was a fluke. But at that point I was just wanting to get going and without any more delay so I went with the STREET CAI at the end. I can send you a photo of my RACER CAI with the warpping problem if you would like, just so you can see for your self that it can happen.
Everything was installed correctly, for that matter I don't think you can install it incorrectly at that connection, itis pretty simple.
Where I stated above that you must make sure you are running tunesmade for theC&L STREET CAI, I am talking about the tunes on the Predator Diablo. When you purchase a tunefrom either Brenspeed or BamaChip, they will ask which one of the CAI units you are using along with more questions about your car and modifations that youhave doneso they canwrite you a custom tune using the correct CAI unit specifications.
So even though the STREET CAI and the RACER CAI look very close in size etc., there is a difference and you will get codes if you choose the wrong category. This information was given to me byboth Doug at BamaChip and Brent and Dave at Brenspeed.
I hope that I explained it without too much confusion. That is the best I can explain it.
Ihope this can help you. PM me ifyouhave any questions, ormaybeI can explain it better over the phone if you want to call me.
GOOD LUCK, AND HAVE FUN,
