thanks d_man, yeah, thats about as far as i got. to me it looks like theres a locking mechanism on the passenger side of the termina keeping it there that has something to do with those wedges

oh, and 157db, if you read, you'd see that I did remove the negative terminal first
I was not trying to point out that you didnt, just warning the other readers
about the need to remove the negative terminal first, then the positive and why.

what's that a picture of btw?
That there is a battery terminal puller that was used when battery
terminals were made of lead. Might not work for the copper wrap
around type used on the S197 stangs.

Mine did. The trick is to not overtighten the wedge screw. Run it down just enough to lock the clamp into place. There should still be a small gap between the wedge and the battery cover. Enough of a gap to allow the red cover to slide back into place. The gap should be about a millimeter.
