Yesterday, I hopped in my '06 GT after not driving it for a couple days and head down the road. Everything was fine, until i got about 2 miles down when my "low fuel" ding sounded. The needle was on empty and the digital guage read 25 miles until empty. I kept driving and after about 3 or 4 miles the needle moved up and the digital guage read that i had 75 miles until empty. Has this happened to anyone else? This is the second time this happened to me; the last time was about two weeks ago and the only thing that was different was the numbers that it read (told me I had 10 miles to go); i hadn't driven the car in a couple days and a few miles down the road i got the ding and etc. Both times I knew that I had more than enough gas when i parked after the previous drive. The first time I figured that somebody may have siphoned gas out of my tank, (i live in a good area but there are some ******* kids around), but this second time i was expecting it to do the same as before.
The second question is a warranty one. My driver side shaker 500 sub blew, and I don't blast my raido and what not. I have an after market head unit, so I was wondering if I could expect any trouble with trying to get the sub replaced under warranty. I need to have my air bag recall crap done, so I was thinking that I'd call before hand and see what they say.
Thanks-
Juban

sounds like you have the erractic fuel gauge...i believe there is a TSB on it, Ford should cover it when you bring it in for the recall. It's extremely difficult to syphon gas out of these cars so I don't think anyone would go through that hassle lol. As far as the sub I'm sure ford will give you a headache about the aftermarket head unit. I don't know enough about electronics to help you out though
Something similar to this happened to me once. My girlfriend sat in the car while I was filling up, and I left the ignition on (motor off though). I pumped ~14 gallons, but when I got in the car and drove off, the needle still was on empty. I took about 15 miles of driving of it to eventually make it up to full.
Depending on how much power the aftermarket head unit puts out it could default the warranty work for the subs. Its Ford vs you and they will win if the dealer wanted to put up a fight about that new aftermarket head unit....JMO but it never hurts to try and leave the aftermarket head unit in.....on second thought get some aftermarket door subs and replace the door speakers all together....you will not be disappointed! do you park on a hill? that could throw of the fuel tank measure thingy. it takes time to settle. if the meter is in the front of the tank and you park with your nose up it all the gas would go to the rear of the tank, (gravity works) the gauge would read that you have low fuel and vise versa. but i have no clue what im talking about
Ford fuel sending units are prone to buildup on the fuel sending unit from either crappy gas, or additives. Next time you fill up add a bottle of 'Techron' fuel injector cleaner and it'll take care of the deposits, not to mention clean up the injectors and everything else.

THat is the stuff that you want. As an FYI, this is one of the only fuel injector cleaners on the market that actually works.

Key-Off refueling
Key-On refueling
Recovery Mode (can last 50 mins or more
and the gas guage does not show the proper amount) [
]and Anti-Slosh mode (default)
The handbrake position also plays a roll in what mode the SJB is currently in.

System drains one side before using the other side.
Hence the tendancy to notice a lean when 1/2 full.
