its there to prevent backfire... I am fairly certain that it has no pollution control functions.

The part you are referring to is called " ZEOLITE AIS HYDROCARBON TRAP". it was deleted from the air intake duct in a 2005 running change. No Mustang built after 12/7/2004 has one. Per the engineering notice it was only used for emissions certification. Removal of this trap did not require the modification of any software or programming of the PCM.....which means you can remove it without any negative effect to the engine.

Default please help, location of vapor trap?

Please help. I recently purchased a 2002 get mustang and I bought a k&n filter for it. I've installed that while stumbling across talk of there being a vapor trap? Air intake restr. Also said to be in a tube close to the air filter. I've taken everything apart, completely disassembled the system and I can't for the life of me find anything. I see a box in between what I believe to be a vaccume hose? Other than that I don't see this air restrictor. Please help, photos of the location if anyone has it. Thank you.

Anthony, you need to post in the section for 2002 Mustangs. This is the 2005-14 section of the forum and the engines are very different. You will get more responses in the correct section.
