^^^^funny as hell there is your diet,^^^^^I guess if your not racing the power to weight ratio is ok I see alot of people hung up on weight on their daily driver stangs I have a vert that is probably heavier then a stock hard top and I love my "chunky but funky" vert, now if you were racing it maybe the weight could be an issue. cant we all just love our fat girls, stangs that is....

Agreed the car is not that heavy, and the additional weight can be shed just by getting good wheels and a light weight DS to make it weigh the same as the new edge.

But the S197 is very light, it's just that the stock components are hadly maxed out in terms of lightening. It's could easily be a light car.

For 5 grand the car can shed 650lbs. Allow me to repeat that again. For 5 grand the car can shed 650lbs.
Considering the weight to HP ratio, that translates to putting a supercharger on for that price. You would be just as fast. Everything in the car to be honest is partically purpose designed to be heavy, yet the car is just as heavy as any other car. Heavier equals safer of course so keep that in mind, but yeah this super light mod would be great instead of an SC.
How would you go about doing this????

Curb weights per Edmunds:

2005 - 3450
2004 - 3347
1998 - 3227

So a total weight increase of 223 lbs from the 98 model year to now. Horsepower in 1998, 225. Horsepower in 2005, 300.
There's also a difference in size. The current Mustang is 4.4 inches longer than the 2004 Mustang GT.

2005 Mustang GT
Height: 54.5 in
Length: 187.6 in
Wheelbase: 107.1 in
Width: 74 in

2004 Mustang GT
Height: 53.1 in
Length: 183.2 in
Wheelbase: 101.3 in
Width: 73.1 in

ANOTHER perfect example of how "some" individuals have little or no knowledge of their cars...thank you to the people who replied with a real solution.......point is, theses cars are heavy...the new camro will probably be heavier too, but they will always have something ready to beat a stock mustang...if not, a used z06 can do it with ease with very mild mods or the same with a camaro wih mild mods... i love my gt and i think that was mistaken by the same people who always chime in with their useless opinions....i swear some of you make me wish i kept my 04 vette...i heard of a brotherhood of mustang owners, but this does not exist.....check out a corvette forum, thesenonsense rants are never there!!!! i guess they are a different class of people....

Leave the weight and just make it so fast that the weight is not an issue.

Vette owners are usually old farts who could care less about tweaking out a speck of hp, they just throw the check book at it. Stang owners are more to earth and passionate about there cars, these are the bread and butter owners of performance cars. Average Mustang owner is 25 years old and average vette owner is 45 so theres your answer. I am 40 yrs old and come from a family of chevy owners (dad buys or leases a vette every year) So I can honestly say I know what I am talking about as far as vette owners for the most part. Attend the Corvette weekend at Bowling green ky and you will see exactly what I am talking about. Oh and YES they do rant just in a different way... I read there boards too (my father post there from time to time).

That's a broad generalization there. I'm not even 30 and I've owned two Corvettes.

The reason why you seen older people in Corvettes is because of the price. It's the same reason why "old farts" drive GT500's. How many 20 something do you know driving around in one of those? You don't. If there was a value priced Corvette, then you'd see more young people driving them.

Still, it's not fair to compare an expensive sports car to a reasonably priced GT coupe. They aren't even the same class of vehicles. The C5 is 8 inches shorter than my S197 and 200 lbs lighter. They're both performance cars, but they drive a lot differently.

As far as not modding the C5, I'm not inclined to do it. Even a 10 year old C5 has 345hp/350lbs ft. '01+ cars have 350hp/375lbs ft. Top speed is 170+ mph. That makes it relevant for a long time with no mods.

The Camaro will probably be like the former GTO. Probably 3,900 lbs or so. It's also an unattractive vehicle in my opinion with that smiling grille. I'll definitely never buy one. It's being marketed to the middle class, during an economic downturn with gas headed to $5 a gallon...that's not a recipe for success.

Thanks for the input Killer! I edit out what I want to and it was not necessarily your post as opposed to what was quoted in it. It is just easier to remove all of it so others wont be compelled to put their 2 cents in on something that has nothing to do with this forum and tech related at all to what the OP is asking and what was being thrown out there in the quotes. Either I missed something or this place is getting really up tight. I didn't think anything was that offensive yet, just freedom of speech. One guy made an assumption about another because of his signature and the next thing I know it is gone. What did I miss?
