A full tank of gas is about 110lbs.
So half tank saves you 55lbs.

Agreed the car is not that heavy, and the additional weight can be shed just by getting good wheels and a light weight DS to make it weigh the same as the new edge.

But the S197 is very light, its just that the stock components are hadly maxed out in terms of lightening. Its could easily be a light car.

For 5 grand the car can shed 650lbs. Allow me to repeat that again. For 5 grand the car can shed 650lbs.
Considering the weight to HP ratio, that translates to putting a supercharger on for that price. You would be just as fast. Everything in the car to be honest is partically purpose designed to be heavy, yet the car is just as heavy as any other car. Heavier equals safer of course so keep that in mind, but yeah this super light mod would be great instead of an SC.
How would you go about doing this????
Seibon Carbon Doors = 300 lbs
Seibon trunk lid = 30 lbs
BMR A arms = 50 lbs
BMR k member = 100 lbs
Steeda Light Weight radiator support ($200) = 20 lbs
Light Weight Drive Shaft = 20 lbs
Racing Seats (Make the car look better) = 70 lbs
Light Weight Wheels = 60 lbs (Enkei RPF1 17" 5x114.3 35mm offset $899 shipped)

Assuming you sell the parts you removed and do all of the instalation work yourself. Thats 5 grand. You can keep your stock tires.

I pulled my front seat which has the side airbag and power functions and it was incredibly heavy. I imagine switching to a Sparco or Corbeau seat could say 30lbs or more a side. Add a rear seat delete and remove the spare and it should make quite a difference.

ANOTHER perfect example of how "some" individuals have little or no knowledge of their cars........point is, theses cars are heavy.
Draw your own conclusions

A new Z06 with extensive use of aluminum, titanium, carbon fiber, balsa wood and hydroformed frame rails weighs 3000 lbs and costs HOW MUCH ?

Had a 66 Stingray roadster, very elemental car. Aluminum heads & manifold, NO power windows, NO power seats, NO sound system,NO power steering, NO power brakes, NO air conditioning, NO rear or side glass, NO sound insulation, NO safety beams in doors,
NO "roof" took it to the scales, 3050 lbs

Had a BMW Z3 roadster, VERY, VERYsmall car, 3000 lbs

Safety features are heavy
Luxury features are heavy
Lightness costs money

So, I`ll politely say, " nonsense" to your assertions

Let me clarify my response to this thread, the photo I submitted wasn't an attempt at humor...that photo is a fiberglass body replacement for the S197, I think the body shell comes in at about 43 pounds, I forgot the weight of the one piece nose section......If you want to surprise a lot of people, replace your metal body with this.

switching out seats, take out the spare tire, take out the sub (if u got shaker 1000)

there r racing gt that have alot and i mean ALOT of holes drilled in the chassis to dramatically lighten it and also it actually strengthen the chassis, i think it was nicknamed, the swiss cheese haha
