Coworker of mine recently got put at fault because he pulled out in front of another car (that he didn't see) which rearended him. He was sighted for pulling out in an unsafe manner. 100% his fault and he's the one that got rearended. Not tboned or sideswipd but full on rearended as in the car behind him ended up under his truck. Car was going the speed limit or within reasonable limits and could not stop/slow down fast enough because my buddy didn't hole shot it out of the parking lot..why? cos he didn't see the car and just pulled out normal.
Like I said Derf, 98% of the time it's the person behinds fault. You're right, as long as it emits a RED GLOW able to be seen from 1000 feet away, it's not a problem. You'd have to have some pretty dark tint ( like the OP ) for it to be that way. I have somethin like 30% vinyl tint on mine, and it barely alters the brightness at night, just very apparent during the day. Things like what happened to your friend, yes that is his fault, and he is that 2% IMO. Most of the time, if you're driving normal, someone isn't paying attention behind you rearends you because they were following too closely, you're not going to be at fault as well just because you have your taillights tinted, that's what I was saying. There is always certain circumstances where that isn't true, but for normal everyday driving, as long as you don't do something stupid ( or have your tails BLACKED OUT ), it's not gonna be your fault. Every state has different laws, some more strict than others, but this is the way it is out here in California, and I'd say they're pretty damn strict here.

Kinda what happened to me to!! Cop is driving in front of me and i had all four on and then the cop slows down and gets into the other lane so i would pass him...right away i know he's gonna pull me over!! So i slow down with him just to see if he would speed up!! Finally gets into the left turning lane and then back behind me and pulls me over!! "Officer sir, those are not my highbeams they are just factory fogs that came with the car and i do not know how to turn them off" (: and he still gave me a warning ):

WTF is this country coming to?

You can get pulled over for having all 4 front lights on?

I have them on for safety officer. It is proven vehicles that have daytime running lights are safer so if I have 4 lights that makes me safer than the next guy...right?

After being pulled over for stupid things, the second I think a cop is following me, I find a gas station and pull in, or pull to the side of the road, and get out and talk on my cell phone. I don't play those stupid games...

I love how people say, "The cop had nothing better to do." His JOB is to enforce the law from every small town ordinance to every major crime. I'm sure everyone on here with a job does things others would consider "a waste of time" or "petty", it's just that his job is in the public view. I am not trying to stir up an argument, but we all basically know what is legal and what is illegal when it comes to modding our cars and if you don't, you need to do the research before you do the mod. The responsibility lies on each of US to keep our cars 100% LEGAL or accept the penalty when we are called on it.

To the OP, if those were summonses in NJ instead of warnings, you'd have several HUNDRED dollars worth of fines to pay. If you get pulled over in most states, the cop has two choices: a warning (verbal or written) or an arrest (in the form of a summons or physically placing you under arrest for processing). So if you had something illegal on your car and got stopped for that illegal thing, you WERE doing something wrong, so the BEST outcome you could have hoped for (besides going back in time and taking a different route) is a verbal warning.

/Puts on flame suit.

P.S - I think your car looks cool ;-) But seriously related to the post, try Goof Off, I use it to get sap from trees off of my windshield as well as getting old inspection stickers and window decals off. One word of warning: GoofOff WILL discolor plastics, so you'll need to REALLY tape off the black plastic around the taillight and be extra careful. Be sure to test it on an inconspicuous part before you apply it fully.

Good luck!

You have a point but the officer has discretion as to what he will actively enforce.

Any cop who actively pursues minor things like this, that in all reality have no real affect on others is just a douche plain and simple.

His tint does not create a public safety hazard, it does not hurt anyone.

IF he stopped him due to profiling then after he learned his identity and found out he wasn't smuggling drugs or anything like that, he could have easily just said have a good night and went on his way.

If you spit your gum out on the sidewalk you can be ticketed for littering. Would you think it was OK if a cop gave you a $500 ticket cause you did that?

It's the same basic premise. Yes enforce the laws but how about enforcing the ones that actually are important and affect public safety.

Well we can go forever on that point, but it is, of course, your opinion as to what is important to public safety. I'm every one would agree that tinting a light of any kind makes it more difficult to see - which some would consider a risk to public safety when applied to a safety device. The point I'm trying to make is it's illegal, it looks BADASS, but it' illegal. I'm not trying to say don't do it because it might be illegal, I'm just saying If you make something on your car illegal, just be prepared to pay the penalty.
