Default Warranty Notice in Mail

Quick Background: Just bought a used 07 Mustang GT w/5000 miles about a month ago. The car was purchased I believe in November of 06.

Today, I received a notice stating the factory warranty will expire 10/30/08, and they want me to purchase an extended warranty. I have two questions

1) shouldn't my factory warranty be 3yr/36000miles, so it would expire in 2009? This letter almost seems like a scam.

2) The original owner purchased an extended warranty that goes to 2012/75000miles. Should this warranty automatically transfer to me? He gave me the receipt for the warranty, and it does not mention anything about being non-transferable.

If anyone has any helpful feedback, I would appreciate it. Thanks.

Yes must be a scam of some sort call the dealership and find out for sure. Since the extended warranty was purchased it will be transferable...

Make sure the notice is from Ford. There are several third party companies offering extended warranties at a rediculous price.

You must transfer the extended warranty, it is not automatic, that applies to all makes, also depends on the inservice date for the 3/60, Ford would not send a scam dated letter for your warranty, thats nonsense!

Yeah this definitely looks like something from a third party. I figured it was trash, but thought I would make sure since I just bought the car.

As far as having to transfer the extended warranty, hopefully there is no fee for that. The original owner paid like $800 for it, and I thought it was a nice addition of my purchase.

sounds like a scam, i get calls like this ALL THE TIME. i just tell the nice lady on the other end that i think my Maserati and Porsche are insured enough, i always get the "uhh uhh... well have a nice day!" and she hangs up

edit- oh yeah we purchased the extended warranty on my 07 when we bought it this year, so i know its not real.
