I decided to change my exhaust again! I had the o/r h with mid mounted flowmasters, and i loved them. but, i wanted to try something new. i got a catted x with pypes mid mounted m80 muffler set-up....the down pipes and x w/ cats that i welded in went smoothly. the rest was a joke....until bending the pipes before and after the mufflers, because they were off by that significant little bit.....i welded everything and used "real" clamps..the ones it came with were embarrassing.....the exhaust is throaty, no real rasp, but 100x more quiet than my previous combo...if i didn't have a lift, pipe bender, inlet/outlet expander, or could weld, the whole system would have been crap.....the mufflers and the x were nice quality. the rest needed CPR......everything was welded in to place and no vibrations...this is my two cents

I know what you mean... I fought with mine for months before bringing it to local exhaust shop and telling them to rebuild the whole thing if that's what it took to line up the tips and stop all the rattling.
So that's what they did. No more problems after that. If I had to do it again, I would just buy the M-80 bullets and have a shop fabricate the rest.
And as for sound, the m-80's give a quality tone with the cats. there are enough blasting S197's trumpeting down the road. You can hear my car VERY well, whether from inside the car behind me or down the street. Just has a mellower tone than some others.

I just had my Pypes Mid-Muffler system installed last Monday. I used their clamps and yes, you're right they are junk. You tighten them down and the wedge in the center breaks. I used them anyway because I wanted to be sure I liked it before making it permanent with welds. I'm going back this week to have it welded up because I think it's a keeper. It was initially installed without the hi-flo cats but it was just a little to loud so I cut my H-pipe and added them in and they seem to have toned it down just enough. They'll also be welded and while we're at it we have to adjust one of the over axle pipes because it's hitting the panhard brace.

Hey! Lay off Pypes Exhaust. At least they had the brains and initiative to DESIGN a mid-muffler setup. And I'm wearin' a beautiful Pypes hat they sent me with the exhaust system (it's now my favorite). I don't think they're an inferior product, just not enough R&D went into the S197 setup. The axle back portion was the main issue. I freakin' LOVE their M-80 bullets and that's why I use them. All of this is IMO of course.

I installed mine without cats but found them a little to loud.
With the hi-flo cats I think it sounds much better, but that's my opinion.
Check these out to get some idea of what it might sound like.
