Herk,
I told you I'd let you know what I found out. I was driving in the rain this week (what was left of Hurricane Dennis) and I'll be dogged if the rain wasn't running toward the driver's side on the rear window. I can't explain it.

I wonder if the coups have noticed this behavior? If not, then it is something inherent to the convertible... maybe slight body flex brought on by engine torque??
edit: fixed spelling error

I can't explain it either... car is symetrical along the long axis...

Dante...
that is one of them... I use several... depending on where I am when I decide I need a wash... Elliville, West Port, Town & Country, Creve Coeur. You might get a funy look from the girl taking your "order".. but really - why would they complain? Hell.. if everyone brought their own towels, they wouldn't have to wash the ones they use.

WildAboutHorses... Using Vasoilene on rubber componants is like 20 year old maintenence. However, not a very good ide on window seals as it is very gooy stuff and will get all over your windows.
Power wash... you are kidding!... My roof doesn't leak.. anywere.. at all.. not a drop.
I use Maguire Leather wipes on every vinyl and leather item, including the top. Unlike Armorall.. it doesn't stick on the surface of the material, but rather, it is absorbed by the material - I keeps the material supple, and helps it reject water (beads up instead of soaking in.). I love the stuff. I use it on a regular basis. Once every 6 months I use BMW Convertible Top conditional / Water Proofer... Designed for convertible tops to keep them weather and water proof. You can use anyones or even good old fashioned 3M Water Proofer.
One thing this very important and often neglected... Keep the rubber strip on the top of your windshield VERY Clean... and wipe it with something like Maguire leather wipes on a REGLUAR basis... Also wipe of the leading edge of the top where it connects to the windshield... you would be SURPRISED how quickly pieces of dirt and dust and stuff stuck to the rubber will DESTROY that seal.

I have a 05, red fire metallic convertible. Problems I have had, rear window seperating from top....... new gas tank replaced (wouldnt accept fuel) NOW after top was replaced, its really hard to close. It seems to work better if you open and close it daily, but who does that, or WANTS to do that. I also noticed the top around the rear passenger window is "comin apart" where the material tucks in behind the glass. Its going into a dealer Monday. The first dealer I went to, while it was there either the boob doing the gas tank, or the sub contractor doing the top put a ding in the rear fender. Fought like he with them, they had "wizard paintless dent remover" gut fix it. It dissapeared. I am NOT going back to them. I had a long discussion with the other dealer, and explained I shouldnt HAVE to go back to the dim-wits who dented the rear fender. I understand they can adjust the top a bit, so it isnt so hard to latch. Any body have a similiar problem and get some resolve to their rag top headaches?
Thanks

My convertible turned a year old 3 weeks ago. So far the only problem I've had is with the notorious brake reservoir fluid leak and the paint being corroded where the brake fluid hit the frame rail.
As far as washing, I don't do it that often. I've never taken her through a car wash. I use a California duster to take the road dust off every time I park her in the garage. In between washes, I use Turtle Wax Ice detailing spray. First I use the California duster, then I use a microfiber towel to remove some of the surface dirt and finally spray the ice and wipe it off. I've gone as long as 10 weeks between washes. It only takes about 5 minutes to clean her with the Turtle wax Ice.
After two months of continuous use, I started seeing some very minor swirl mark in the finish. I washed it with Dawn to remove the coats of Ice and wax, used a Macguire clay bar and wax and all the swirl marks were gone. She looked better then the day she left the show room and the finish was smooth as wet ice.
