How much clearance is needed to put the top up or down? I'm curious, in a typical home garage, is there enough clearance to raise/lower the top. I'd like to keep mine in the garage with the top down, but only if there's enough room that I can put it up - say if it's raining when leaving the next morning. Sure don't wanna have to back out into the rain to put the top up.
I routinely put mine up and down in my garage with no problems. Even with the garage door up (I hope that makes sense as when the garage door is up it's right above the back of the car). But that's my garage.

Less than 7'4" on a non-lowered car.

yes theres enough clearanc ein your garage.. the only thing is if your in a single door youll knock about the emergency release. so make sure its not a hook like handle on the end, you might catch something. you might wanna loop it short just to be safe.

i opent hetop in the garage 90% of thetime.

Thanks, and your comment makes perfect sense. That is another thing that I really wanted to know (with the garage door up - above the car), but wasn't sure how to get the point across. So, I figured even if I had to close the garage door, it would still be do-able.

I've only seen the top go up/down twice on a Mustang and it seems like it was pretty high up.

Mister Roper - Thanks for measuring.

and

Stickman - I do know what your talking about, but mine is a double-wide door, so the opener/emergency deal would be to the side and not a clearance issue.

Thanks for your replies!!!

I put my top up while in the garage. There is a 26.5 inch clearance between the top and the garage door, and the top just clears.

I notice the motor for the top makes a high-pitched noise just as it gets within a couple inches of the windshield. Anybody else hear that?

yeah the motor works extra hard with all the weight of a fully extended cover.... i think that might be the reason for any sound change

At that point, the weight of the top is now leaning forward on itself, the motor has less resistance then.
