Shorty Antenna from Pep Boys?
#21
Thats non reversable without purchasing a new OEM antenna from Ford.
A purchased shorty can be removed and replaced with the stock antenna if you dont sacrafice it in the first place to make a shorty.
The universals from pep boys are just that, universal.
The assortment of studs makes it a 'universal' antenna.
The stud arrangment sucks and only a shorty with the
required S197 threads without the adapter stud is the only
way to go if you really want a shorty.
I tried to cut a surplus antenna to make a shorty and its tougher
that some would make it out to be. The antenna is made of stainless
and sandpaper powered by hand wont barely touch it.
The anti whistle spiral that goes up the antenna also
messes with just 'putting the ball back on after cutting'.
There is also the danger of poking one eye out with a shorty antenna
that is not present with the stock antenna unless you are 7' tall.

As far as a shorty antenna being dangerous...car jackings, wrecks and vandalism are probably more likely to happen with our cars than injury from a shorty antenna. Come on man lets be real.
If you don't want to cut your OEM antenna then don't, just buy one. I was just providing a suggestion that has work for numerous members and it's free.
