Based upon the above, does Ford use any special break in oil? My Honda S2000 did so the first recommended oil change was 7500 miles.

FordEngineer...next time please post pics (if you can) of removing/replacing the under louver cover on the GTs in order to gain access to the oil filter. This would be really helpful to the 2010 owners...

Not from my knowledge, but I'm not a Ford engineer. Should be standard motor oil.

That was done in this post: https://mustangforums.com/forum/6492576-post19.html

(Sorry for replying, like, a year later. Just happened to re-reference this thread responding to someone else in a PM).

I changed mine with castrol syntec blend and cheap filter at 500, 1500, 3000 and 5000 miles then started the Amsoil 0w30/amsoil syn filters every 10k after that. May have been a waste but it made me feel better.
;-)
Another thing you won't hear about often but is important is swapping your rear diff fluid at ~3k miles to clear the break-in materials.

Definitely would be good to know whether there is break-in additive put in the initial oil, hence running full life before change. That woudl be only downside for doing an "early" change.

I have about 2k on my 2010 GT, was almost ready to pull trigger and get a change.

Doubt it but who knows. I thought it would be a good idea to get the assembly lubes and gasket particles OUT as quickly as possible. I've also seen many UOA (used oil analyses) on the modular engines and know they shed a great deal of copper over the first 20k miles or so. That was my reasoning behind the frequent changes.

I'd always done the early oil & filter change on my cars, at 600 miles or so. But for most of them that was back when readily available motor oils had higher concentrations of ZDDP (an extreme pressure additive that's not so good for long-term catalytic converter life) in them.

My '08 got its first oil change at somewhere around 1500 miles. Genuine Ford/Motorcraft.

But with the possibility that the initial fill uses a slightly different oil composition, I only changed the filter on the '10 Legacy early (around half the distance to the first scheduled change mileage) and topped off the level with "regular" oil. By doing that, you're throwing whatever debris that the filter may have caught out of the engine, without compromising any extreme pressure or other break-in properties much.
