A schoolbus driver ended up seeing and leaving a note and a number to call if she wanted more info not knowing I had already called and laughed with her about the situation. She ended up laughing and ripping up the note.
I was the good Samaritan before...
I didn't leave a note, I waited (not long) for the owner to get out of the store, then give the owner the tag# of the ******* biatch that messed his new truck up.

In CA it's considered a hit and run if you do not leave evidence if trying to contact the proprty owner. This is where the police could come in and help, but you don't want a ticket.

If I were you I would go back to the scene and leave your contact information in an envelope attached to the fence. Or simply go into the business and tell them during normal business hours.

I have been involved in hundreds of hit and run accidents and for the most part, they go unsolved. But there are a few that are solved, and those people get hammered on their insurance rates. As they should.

It seems "reasonable" to go back the first business day and make contact. You can still make an insurance claim even without the police report, that way they would pay for the damageto your car and your damage to their fence.

Well, I've never had it happen to me, but I'd like to think I'd do the right thing and contact the business owner. Let's hope I never have to find out!

If the Mustang community was so perfect and kind, we would rule the world by now...

My comments were based on the fact that almost everyone said they'd feel awful and make sure they'd do something about that fence.
Yeah right, I'm buying this one...

I don't care to know who's full of schit or not, it's not where it's at, but the OP gets pounded when none of us can prove that we'd do the right thing.

I'll be sincere enough to say that I would be a lot more willing to fix someone's private car than some corporate fence, in the events of my screw ups.

The real lesson of the story is that a 3 dollar energy drink is WAY less expensive than body repairs. Anytime i feel tired while driving, i stop at the next gas station and pound a few monster energy drinks and hit the road.

+1 on this. Its easy to say to go back and take care of the damages, but harder if it was actually you that it happened too.

I nailed a guardrail once that had to be partially replaced, you can bet I didn't go back and leave a note for the city. someones car or personal property, I think, and hope I would be different.

Or just say that you hit the ditch or something...

I agree with all, that you should man up to the fence damage.
If you're broke, you could always offer to cut the lawn for the owner or some similar services, to show your good faith...
Except if that property belongs to any of the corporations that got government bail outs or affiliated to ******** like Acorn etc...

Having said that, SOME of you here, are so full of schit!

Actually I can back up my position. A few years ago, during the winter, my daily driver slid on some black ice and a similar incident occurred. Being it was my daily driver, I could have walked away and not worried about fixing anything, including my vehicle. After all I could drive it, and most of the damage was property damage. I didn't go that route though, and stepped up to do what was right.

My 17-year old had an incident where he was playing around a little over a year ago (and ultimately learned a lesson). He ended up in someone's front yard late at night. I made sure he went back and talked to the property owner. He ended up spending a Saturday working, and fixed the damage he caused to the man's yard.

Crap like this is what raises insurance rates for the rest of us.

I don't think so.
Most people don't claim stuff like that because it doesn't cover the deductible.

And screw Insurance cies, we get rapped by them most of the time.
For example, since when it's fair to put aftermarket or used parts on our cars anyway??
Especially when you're not at fault.
I could go on and on...

But you have the right attitude none the less, sir.
