When my wife and I got hit about 2 years ago we also filed a "Loss in Value" claim with the other person's insurance company and we got about 1/3 the value of the total cost in repairs sent to us in a check...

While it doesn't remove the loss in value, it certainly did ease the pain... :-)
Thanks for the heads up. We actually looked into that. Unfortunately in South Carolina there was a supreme court ruling a while back siding with insurance companies. Diminished value is not recognized in this state. So there is nothing that keeps Geico from saying No (which they did). However after my experience today it looks like my fight has temporarily turned to the Ford dealer who is repairing my car. I have to get on them to repair it right. Especially since the insurance company put up very little resistance with all my demands so far. Once the body looks good it will be on to the mechanical half of the repairs which I am sure I will uncover once I get to drive the car. That will turn my fight back to Geico. I am hoping this gets done right and kicks off the New Year on a positive note.

Happy New Year

So few people are aware of that little fact here...
Another thing that Ins. Cies. are getting away with... and don't expect them to make that fact aware to the general public, of course.

Bottom line if it keeps coming back messed up I am going to press them to pay for the payments until it is right or total the car.
I used a Ford dealer too because they had the best body shop around. I went on a tour of the shop, interviewed the painter that would paint my car and looked at cars they had finished before selecting them for my work. But after many trips back for repaints I gave up on it. Some of the paint problems did not show for a number of months. The last paint problem was a white cast that developed under or in the clear coat in a couple of spots. Also the matching of the black color was very tough and they never could get it right. The color shift of the black mismatch could only be seen in certain light. The dealer shop was very nice about it, and kept working on it but what started out as a couple of small scratches and a new wheel just kept getting to be a bigger and bigger job as they had to repaint more of the car to get the paint right.

What really ticks me off about it is some 90 year old ding bat hit my car and then I get this pain in the neck trying to get it fixed. I hope you have better luck but in my case I didn’t want to waste anymore of my time on it!

I had been waiting for the 10s to come out in November and I had planned to buy one, but after seeing how disgusting the butt end was and no more HP I traded it for a new 09 at the same dealer. I didn’t feel like I needed to tell them about their poor paint work but they found out about the accident on a CarFax check (BTW CarFax will follow your car forever). I told them that they did all the work and I was sure they would stand behind their work and give me high book for the car. I got a great trade-in and a super buy on the 09. They had to get my 09 from another state too, because they did not have the exact GT I wanted.

One of the great things about Mustangs is that they are cheap to replace and Ford has a bunch of them but in my case I had to grab a 09 because I didn’t like the 10. Hopefully they will fix the butt end of Mustang in 12!

It is currently sitting at my local Ford dealer awaiting the insurance company to come look at it. What do you guys think I am looking at in terms of repair costs? I am hoping it is repairable as I had plans for the car but I am not sure. What do you guys think?

That sucks...it looks expensive, i had minor quarter damage and it cost $2700+ if that helps you estimate the cost.

sorry to hear about your stang getting rear ended man. i'm going through the same thing right now. i got rear ended when i was heading back to school on a sunday on i-35, i take the exit that was maybe 50 yards ahead, in plain eyesight of the guy, and he never followed. This happened 2 months ago today and it made me sick just thinking about it. As for exterior damage, it doesnt' look bad, my bumper is all beat up and thats all we thought was the problem, but it turns out my rear impact bar was kinked really bad on the left side, so the total cost comes out to be $2400. The deductible is $500, and insurance covers the rest. Best of luck with everything man.

Sorry to hear about your bad luck as well. Hopefully yours won't be as bad. Mine cost almost $6k to be fixed. Since it wasn't my fault I don't have to pay for it but it is still stressful.

I know what you mean.. once it's tarnished, it's tarnished. I try not to think about it and hope mine will come out of the shop looking brand new. I've only had mine for 6 months so it's not really worthwhile to take a loss on it yet. I'm not a fan of the '10 rear end either. Patiently waiting for the 2014 unless something goes wrong with my current stang. On the bright side, you were able to get the 45th anniversary "edition"

Mine was about six months old when it got hit by the ding bat when I was stop in traffic. It was one of those deals where she got mixed up and hit the throttle rather that the brake. Rather than running into the cars behind me she went between us (the lanes) so she could screw up four cars including mine. I spent more than a year trying to get it fixed and gave up. I was lucky that she mostly glanced off my back wheel and totaled a Camry that was a couple of cars in front of me!! Look out for the white buffing compound they use. It is like glue and gets under the edge of the back window and around the side window and it is imposable to get out.

Hope it all works out OK for you and let’s hope Ford fixes the Mustang GT in 12

From all these stories, sounds like sometimes it's just better to have the car totaled and start new. That old ding bat sure did ruin a few lives that day. lol, drove between the lines?? wow. People really need to realize when they can no longer sit behind the wheel. They just screw everyone and themselves over. Insurance prolly wouldn't let her drive after that one.
