I agree with BClark. I haven't had mine go to empty yet, but when I'm pushing it hard, the fuel gauge drops quickly for a while, but when I'm driving smoothly, it rises again and depletes slowly. It seems like a warning for how much gas you are using at that instant in time...

Ditto on my '06 on a road course. Usually when fuel down below half. Just keep driving and it pops back up and reads normally. Then it goes down again, setting off the low fuel light and chime. Then back up again, etc. I just ignore it and make sure I start my cool-off lap when it reads normal otherwise it takes 10 minutes of normal driving to slowly come back up.

Never happens with street driving. Even spirited. Only on the track when being pushed.

Cheers.

It could be one of the four modes of operation that the gas guage has.
What mode was yours in when this happened?
More info for an over the internet diagnosis...

If it was indeed in anti-slosh mode, then you have some bad proplems...
If it was in any of the other modes of operation, then who knows...
