I think the hypocrisy is being lost on a lot of people.

Buying American for the sake of it being American undermines the very point of a free market, the things our founding fathers and ancestors fought for. It's not racist to have a preference towards American cars, but the amount of racial insults behind many of the posts in this thread are. The raw materials used to build domestic cars come from all over the world. Do you really think Ford buys steel from companies that don't trade raw materials with other nations? It's a global economy. I'm willing to bet the raw materials used for your car were sourced from all over the globe.

If you're dead-set on buying American, stay the hell away from a gas pump. Oil is a commodity and traded globally. You could be pumpin' that evil Chinese crude into your motor! You could be a filthy red! Oh man! Where's the bomb shelter?

Toyota has plenty of US facilities as well. They even built one in my sort of home town of San Antonio. Those damn "Japs!" Creating jobs in the US. How dare they help our economy!

For a long time, domestics were inferior. The tides are changing. I'm just having a bit of fun with that comment. I'm actually pretty impressed with Ford's recent direction. Almost all of their cars are pretty good.

 

Even though they have plants in America, the profits still go to Japan. A country that attacked America.

Yeah, the gas issue is true, but unfortunately there is too much apathy in this country to do anything about it and those of us that give a damn don't have a choice. I did do Bio-diesel for awhile, actually. But can't seem to get the Mustang to run on it, lol

I think it's funny that I'm getting called a racist for having American pride. And all the KKK and cross burning comments. People have no clue anything about me. That's taking it too far to label someone like that when the don't even know me. I'm not even going to waste my time with that, but you guys that said that stuff have no idea how stupid that makes you look if you knew me.

 

They fought to not be forced to buy from another country. Not so they could buy from another country. They also fought for freedom from another country's rule and taxation. And most importantly for freedom of Religion.
I'm not saying the freedom shouldn't be there to buy a foreign car, just that we should consider our own country's needs right now being the state that it's in. I do try to buy everything American that I possibly can. It's not always possible, but when I have a choice I do. And that's a freedom we have in this country right along with freedom of speech.
But **** all this crap, dude wanted our opinion and he got it. Bottom line, the Mustang is the better car for the money and it also happens to be American. But I think he obviously wants a Tuner so he should go get one and have fun in it with the other Fast and Furious kids. Maybe throw some neon under it and put a huge wing on it. Paint it up like a trapper keeper, too.
