I like reminding myself that I am not as lazy as the guy who can't be bothered to get his keys out to drive his car.

Use public transportation if you want true keyless; why even be bothered to drive yourself?

I can see it now: the first round of mustangs with keyless entry and push button start also get the passenger side water leak, and every time it rains the doors randomly lock/unlock and the car starts by itself. Maybe Ford should focus on that problem before adding more gadgets.

After driving a car with a push start button for 4 years I can say I do miss it and wish it was an option when I bought my car cause I would have pay'd extra for that option. As for the aftermarket ones that is a big no in my book cause i'm not cutting no wiring harnesses and the kits that I've seen none of them are like the OE style.

Yep. I don't see it being an option. It will be standard equipment.

From Dave's description and that of others elsewhere, I know as absolute truth that I would find having to hold the button down as a required shutoff procedure (implying several seconds) infuriating well beyond what the small amount of time wasted actually represents. Having the car go through audible unlock-lock cycles every time I'd walk past it closely enough to trigger it (without intending to get into the car) would be mostly just annoying.

1st, mustang often keeps 2 options running...that's the great thing about these cars. "A steed for every need"....customization is key.

2nd....when did you start worrying about speed? sounds like you're on our team now!

It's 2010. We landed on the moon like 40 years ago. Automated doorlocks and a push button start should be a given option by now.

Once again....I'd say that 90% (or more) of people who have used this system before prefer it. Like I said before...just try it for yourself!

I'm not quite sure what you're getting at here. If it's about me not wanting to be held up waiting on holding the button down long enough, it's because once I get to where I'm going I shouldn't have to beg some computer to shut the car off for me so I can let my foot off of the clutch and get out – meanwhile waiting for it to realize that "yes, you dimwit computer, I really do mean for you to do what I asked you to do - now get to it!". In case you haven't figured it out yet, I prefer to do lots of little things for myself that could be done mechanically or electrically for me, probably more than you'd guess and not all automotive related. Electronics have their place, but that stops short of them dictating how the details of all the little tasks in my life must be accomplished.

Relative to "speed", I understand that you can't use an instant-off like a light switch, since you could inadvertently end up with the car shutting off when it's moving. A key at least requires a more complex motion and intentional effort.

And if you had been around to read the Popular Science/Popular Mechanics magazines back in the 1950's you might have expected that by now we could be driving cars that flew or ran on nuclear power. What's your point?

This is the same basic emotional argument used nearly all the time by those who think that newer must and without exception be better. There is no tech behind it; it is simply an appeal to the human tendency to enjoy being a little lazy. Just so you know, I can see exactly one rather small but probably real 'up-side' to this feature in some cases that hasn't been mentioned yet (that I will neither mention nor confirm). It's not nearly enough to make me "switch sides", anyway.

I have the push start on my Chally. Key in pocket just push and go. I love it. When I drove the 5.0 the other day I wished it had it but not a deal breaker. The mustang has alot of tech in it now that trumps many high end cars. It has everything my chally does only better and in some cases more. Although I hate the cars that have the push start that also needs the key turned to the on position. Doesn't make sense

how people access and start their vehicles has extremely little to do with the driving experience by itself. you get in, you start it and then you driving takes over. you dont feel how you got into the car or started the car anymore. you feel driving. so taking public transportation is pretty far over in left field from this discussion i think.

did people get this fired up about keyless locking and unlocking? even automatic windows.. geez...

I agree with Adidas, had push button start in my last two cars. Don't miss it at all, but love the experience of cruisin in the Stang.

I got the start button because to me it's just a cool thing to have. When I walk up to my car the doors unlock because they've sensed my presence and inviting me in

If this isn't something that someone wants I completely understand that. Everyone has their likes and dislikes.

From a security standpoint though, my car is like Fort Knox. If you don't have the key fob you will NOT be able to steal this car. It came with about 7 different wiring harnesses and completely disabled the typical way the car starts. It's not possible to "hot-wire" either.

What tech are you talking about? Ambient lighting? Fuel injection? HID's? Wow. There is nothing about the Mustang electrical system which is ground breaking in the least, it's a retro design fitted with basic electronics.
If you want to see what current day auto advancements have to offer then steer clear of the Mustang entirely because you'll be disappointed.

I have a start button I installed in the 12v outlet, not because I have wet dreams about start buttons but because it's a dumb place to stick an ugly 12v outlet. Rather than blank it off with an Ebay-Special blanking plug i decided to at least make that area functional. It's not a love it or hate it thing, it's just an option.
My idea of interior-Hell is one with cables draped across dash tops, reaching back and forth between GPS/Radar units. Run the cables along the bottom edge of the windshield !!
