Kudos for a great method to solve a problem. Now you can put that $7 - $20 that you saved towards a mod.

Saved $7 towards the purchase of a new remote once that
one dies since it is no longer water/dust proof.

From what I am told, you need to have the "smart chip" or whatever installed in the key, and have it programmed to work with the car. (I think walmart does this when you go to buy a second key for your car, its around $60 to have one made but that includes the key itself).

Then you obviously have to have the key itself cut, which any hardware store can do for a few bucks I imagine... Not sure if this is completely accurate, but then you also have to go and program the remote itself which probably takes 10 minutes in your garage.

That's all there is to it, at least I hope so lol.
