Dealers want a car that is stock so that they can certify it as a ford certified vehicle. Body modifications and wheels are the exception but you are just giving away your parts if you let them go to the dealership.

x2... more work but you'll get at least a couple grand more. I'd see how much the dealership would offer, and more than likely it will be way less than book value. If its like 6k below book value, i'd sell it myself for 1-2k below value. But then again it is winter so it'll be harder to sell.

I recently got my stang from the dealership, and the previous owner was torn a new one on his trade in. I got the car for $14k (so he got 11-12), NADA was about 18k and it has a 6k supercharger kit...

I got more for my 06 than I had planned on because the tech said I put 7-10k in the car. Since I did most of the work myself, it was closer to 2500 or 3k. Anyway, it helped me at trade time, but I wouldnt put a lot of stock into getting that same deal. If you have the window to sell it yourself, you'll make more money, get less screwed in the deal and likely the buyer will be happier from you then the stealership

When I traded my 07 in, it was lightly modified with a GT500 spoiler, Black Bullit Wheels and minor suspension upgrades. No engine mods. The dealer gave me 3k over KBB for it in a trade because of the mods. They put it on the showroom floor and sold it in a couple of days. It helps if the mods are subtle, don't void the warranty and are tasteful.

Just echoing what has been said above...your mods won't add any value to the car. You're better off taking the time to remove them and sell them separately before trading the car in. Trade in is the toughest part of working a deal. I spent 2 hours at the dealership when I bought my car. 1 1/2 hours of that time was negotiating the trade. The other 30 minutes was searching other dealers' inventories for a car that I liked.

Thanks guys, this is all really helpful. I think what I'll do is swap the side skirts and leave the rest on. Madscotsman: it was such a pain in the @ss getting the shifter installed I don't really want to try and remove it but thanks for the interest! If I change my mind I'll PM ya.

Yeah, REALLY looking forward to getting a GT500.

And yes, I have thought of selling the car myself (I have sold several cars through ebay and the like) but I'm still paying it off and I'm unsure how I'd go about selling it with a loan riding on it.....

If it's financed locally you just sell it like normal and complete the transaction at the credit union. Once their balance is paid they give you cash and the new owner the title.
