Default Key swap?

Can anyone tell me if the key from a 2010-, that has the remote made on to it, be programmed for an '09 that the key and remote are separate? Dealer says the key can be cut but does not know about the programming.

You can buy the fob on eBay for pretty cheap usually, and can program it yourself. Just an alternative to buying from the dealer as I bet it's pricey. I can't remember the exact process for programming but it's easy. Hopefully someone who has it copied down will chime in or something.

After a quick search, this seems to be the process for the chip in the key, and programming the fob is apparently in the manual.

I know you weren't talking about the flip key exactly, but I figured it relates haha

I just got one of these for my '12 and it says it works with '09 Mustangs. So I would assume the factory 10+ will work.
That flip key was discussed towards the end of this thread.

I had the flip-key thing from ebay on my GT... to be honest it was different, but too friggin big. I'd like to have a key like the newer Mustangs have with the keyless on the actual key itself.

I think he means having the key fob/remote as part of the key handle. I had that and hated it because it makes the key so damn long and clunky. couldn't put it in my pocket without issues. switched to the flip key set up and am a happy camper.

The top one is the newer style flip key from ebay. The bottom one is the 2010+ factory key.

ive got the flip key as well and like it a lot, just a note tho, the flip key transmitter isnt as nice as the oem transmitter, meaning that while on the oem key i could double tap the trunk button real quick to opening it, on the flip key there had to be like a 1/2 second delay between button presses for it to register, if you double tap'd it real quick like with the oem key it would register only one press and not open the trunk.

not a big deal but somewhat of a hinderance when your used to the quick double tap of the 2011 oem key

anyways heres a comparison pic

new flip key from ebay -> 2012 acura tsx key -> 2011 mustang oem key -> 07 civic key

unclenard,
yeah, that's mine on top.
not sure how the other one is better but everone has different tastes.
looks very similar to the 07-09 (and maybe beyond) stock equipment, did not try it.
