Saving $417 a month. 200 on the car payment vs the STi and $217 on gas. Its no stang, but with nearly 270ftlbs it isn't a slouch either.

I use Lucas and Seafoam roughly once a month. I get ~18 mpg and I am romping on it. But shift before 2300 rpm and you may see an increase in gas mileage.

My commuter car now is a Volt though, so I'm currently getting over 100MPGe . 2,000 miles traveled, 5.5 gallons of fuel burned. Costs me about .65 per day to charge it, and my round trip to work is 33 miles. I get to charge at work though on their time, so it really only costs me about 32 cents per day to go to work.
I shift at 3000-3500, so that doesn't help, but I like to hear it and plus it can be tough not to with the 4.10's. Just curious, but have you calculated how long it would take to start saving with the Volt compared to if you bought a Jetta or Focus or something like that that gets ~35mpg and costs 10-15k less? I bet it won't take too long with only spending 32 cents a day lol.

No, because frankly those are cars I wouldn't buy anyways. I get the argument people make about owning a cheaper car and saving the cash, but I was already in a car that cost 36k. I like being able to travel and not rely on gas. It may not make as much financial sense as driving a 20k car that gets 35mpg, but it will should gas ever hit 8-9 bucks a gallon, which eventually it will.

But yeah, spending 32 cents a day helps. Most calculations you read about are based on either the average or east coast electricity rates. Oregon has some of the lowest electricity rates in the nation, which helps. Eventually I'll charge it off solar . Nothing like 42 free miles!

We own Mustangs... when did gas mileage become a concern?
When the price of gas went up.
Sorry bud, we're all not rolling in dough.

And your southern neighbor, CA has some of the highest, (something like 42¢ for tier 4 rates).

Wanna save gas, just don't go out. hyper-miling in a mustang takes the fun out of it.

I used to get the "don't buy this if you're concerned about mpg" but frankly, with today's technology its entirely possible to have fun and get decent MPG. That's one thing that really turned me off about the Ford Raptor. 11/16mpg hwy with 400hp. Yes, it has awesome capabilities, but with other trucks up in the 20s with the same HP . . . come on Ford!

I think you missed the point..lol She absolutely did not understand that $20 worth of gas didn't get you as many gallons of gas. To her nothing changed even if it were 1 cent a gallon or 10 dollars a gallon.

I am also not sure saving for 3 years just to put half down on a 5 year old car counts as rolling in dough.

keep the stangs and buy a motorcycle people. motorcycles are a blast and most get very good mileage. screw the econoboxes.

you would be amazed at what it does for your budget when your $160 a month gas bill drops to $35.

you still have the mustang and get to play, and save some cash to boot. oh and don't underestimate just how fun a motorcycle is . my
