Best short shift kit?
Cool guys, thanks for all the opinions! Looks like I'm going with the MGW, Hurst white shift ****, and black leather w/black stitching shift boot. Hopefully I'll remember to post pics and impressions later
Good choice. If I did it again, I'd do MGW. Not that I don't like the Hurst I have, but just from what I've read time and time again about the MGW, I'd have to try it. Haven't seen one negative post about them. I do like my Hurst, like stated, it gives some nostalgia to the car. It did have a rattle noise, but it was totally cured with some gun lubricant. No more rattle at all.
I've had both (Hurst and MGW). The Hurst is a very definite improvement over the stock shifter, but not in the same league as the MGW. It's one of those "better" and "best" scenarios.
The only real downside with MGW is the relatively big "pay to play" factor. They make a high end , carefully engineered and meticulously manufactured product, and the cost reflects that.

i never drove with the stock shifter, but i have a hurst in the car and to be honest i am not happy with it. Sometimes it works perfectly well other times it wont go into first or wont go smoothly into second as far as i know the mgw is the best shifter for the car.
I just googled MGW and found this quote on another forum.
I would rather be manually silly than automatically gay...
That's brilliant! I would like to try this MGW, just to see how the other half lives.

No pics yet, but I figured I'd at least update with my impressions...
Cons: Reverse is very difficult to slot into, sometimes put it in 3rd instead of 1st (not a big issue when this car is easy to take off from a stop in 3rd anyways)
Pros: Everything else
Install was a breeze, great customer service, came with a bunch of parts, and some new things were added in the kit (they didn't just make the kit and call it quits). Shifts are precise and buttery smooth, even at the firmness setting of 6 (10 is the firmest). The quality is absolutely superb. I like it even better than the TWM shift kit I put in my Protege5, which was the best kit you could get for it.
I would highly recommend this kit to anyone! If the reverse gear is too tough to slot into, you can just reduce the firmness below 6.
