05-09 GT VS 10-14 V6 (First car

Wish I would have waited, I would have paid 400 less, and got the '12 with the 3.7 motor.
It's still for sale, and if he gets to the low 4s, I will have to grab it. I been running mine
for a few weeks waiting to repair my Jetta. I will have put over 4000 miles on it by
tomorrow morning, for the past three weeks...
Would like to see what MPG I can get out of a 3.7 engine.
With the changed plugs, tune, and oil change, I am at 28+ MPG overall. IT Calculated 32 MPG
yesterday, 7.1 gallons used @ 221 miles. I use less going than coming back. I was arriving
at a little below half tank 25 MPG, now I am arriving at a little above half tank. Fueling at the last
site, to home this AM, I am a smidgen before half tank, another 222 miles. I was getting back
with the gauge between quarter and half before the plugs and oil change.
Basically:
$28.00 to fill up with 8.x gallons here to destination, 221 miles, with fuel level at above the half hash mark on arrival.
$22.00 fill up there with 7.1 gallons, to return, 222 miles with the needle just hitting the half hash mark.
443 miles total, say 15.5 gallons (to be safe) of fuel, calculates 28 MPG overall... I could barely
run the round trip with a full tank, I would be on fumes by the time I got home. Also, this is NO
hard accelerations, no racing, just normal ease the accelerator driving, AKA, no fun. If I race it
even once, it blows the MPG right out the window. Also, I am running a different way, not going over
the mountain, and + 20 miles, when I was getting 28 MPG. Running Mt. union, 20 miles less
on a flatter route.
I have been monitoring the fuel use for the past three weeks, and with the maintenance and tune, it has
gone up for sure. Even more when I changed the gas saturated oil...
So, I put over 10,000 miles on it since purchased on 1/29/18.

Times sure have changed. My first car was a pontiac firebird for 3500. It was a nice car and lasted all the way through college for me. I would ask what are your plans for the future. Do you plan to attend a university or trade school? If so you might be better off getting something not so expensive and waiting to acquire the right car. Meaning a GT 11-14 when you can afford it. As its been stated ur insurance will likely be expensive. Unless your parents are paying that for you. If you can't wait then you might see if your parents know anyone that has the ability to take you to a car auction. You might be able score what want for a reasonable price. Id say if your heart is set on a GT then a Sixer will disappoint you. Truth be told when I bought my 07GT new I was not all that impressed with power but loved the look of the car. To each his own. You might even think about waiting a year or two as those cars will come down a bit more. Good luck

Yea you are right. I think my first mod was an air raid intake then a tune. I then went to gears. It helped the car but I was still unimpressed. The long road lead me down the one I went and now I'm happy
