Default Water Pump

2014 Mustang 3.7 I removed the water pump and on the bottom left of the pump is an opening and it slides over a pipe coming out of the engine. On that pipe was a a rubber ring that appeared to have a steel band in it. What is that part? Does anyone have a part number. I attempted to remove it couldn't get it off but messed it up bad, ended up taking the car to a local shop. The guy said he removed it but did not replace it because he could not figure out what it was either and could find nothing on it. Trips to Ford are and parts shops were useless as they can not find it either. Well 100,000 miles later I need to change the pump again, so I would like to replace it this time when I do. Anyone got any ideas or can help? I found 1 you tube video where the guy said it was to seal the timing chain cover. Ford tells me if that was it I would have had to have removed the harmonic balancer to remove it. I know I did not do that. Car seems to run ok oil level is fine every time I change it a little grease and dirt under that area of the pump lately so that's why I want to put it back and change the pump.

Thanks

Is it part number 3? If so, the part number is BR3Z-8527-A. Ford parts has it costing a couple dollars

Thanks but that's not it mine has ridges and is metal with rubber around it. Itb would go on the lower left where that curved housing in the pump is. which you really can't see in this picture.

picture of the pipe and/or oring and where it goes? It might not be available by itself if it was on a pipe and got messed up. VW for example is notorious for doing this. They have plastic hoses and compression fit seals/connections on their pipes and if the O-ring or sealing mechanism breaks, you have to replace the entire part it was attached to. Most fuel lines on fuel injection cars are like this too.

If it's what's behind the timing cover or goes through it like this image implies...I was right, not available by itself.

and Ford doesn’t show the seal on that nipple available by itself. You might be able to use a regular o ring but, it might not work.
