...And the start button actually does something.
Does what, start the car? ...
Yes. Hence the term "start button."

What is the point of having big *** chrome wheels, non-functioning body kits, duck-tail spoilers, hood scoops, tinted windows, etc.? Do you see the point?
That makes as much sense as the mods listed in your sig. No flame intended here but come on, what is the point of this mod?
Again, "What is the point of having big *** chrome wheels, non-functioning body kits, duck-tail spoilers, hood scoops, tinted windows, etc.? Do you see the point?"

As far as the mods in my sig, hmm...

Saleen Xenons - help me see WAY better than the inadequate stock lights. My other car has projector beam Xenons so it's hard getting back used to mere halogens.

Sequentials - gets more of peoples' attention when I hit the brakes or signal for a turn, on top of just looking cool.

3.73 gears - gives a little more response without sacrificing too much fuel economy or my eardrums on the highway. (I shouldn't have even had to explain that.)

Aluminum flywheel - less rotational mass for the engine to spin. It frees up some HP as well as makes for better throttle response and slightly better fuel economy.

Dual-friction clutch - makes for a better bite with the clutch. Gives much better throttle response and much less slippage.

Eibach Prokit springs - lowers the cars center of gravity as well as firms up the suspension. Makes for much greater cornering ability. And it looks really cool, not like the truck-like stance of the stock setup.

Bigger wheels & tires (18x9) [not listed] - Makes for much greater cornering ability and looks way cool.

Carbon fiber driveshaft - See Aluminum flywheel.

Subframe connectors - connects the front subframe to the rear subframe (hence "subframe connectors) and stiffens the chassis for greater cornering ability.

Start button - just plain cool and fun.

Any performance car person could see the sense in all of my mods, but you never know who's reading these boards.[&o] I didn't buy my Mustang just to look good driving down the road. That's the main reason why I opted for the V8 and not a V6.

When I get my Whipple supercharger kit, I'll explain the sense in having that, too.

Yes, start buttons have been around for 80+ years now. What I really want to understand is why you would desire to take an extra step just to start the car? This isn't the Ford GT, Lexus or '28 Ford p/u for that matter.
I suppose I could see your point. I mean, what's the point in taking the extra steps in shifting my own gears, too?[sm=smiley24.gif]

Once again, not trying to flame but I just wanted to know what the attraction is to the little red start button thingy.

I thought it did....you have to sire in some audio plugs and plug something in. I was gonna plug in my old tape player so i could listen to some tapes...or whatever else i find to plug in, like my laptop.
Do a search here and over at TMS for "Aux Button", been quite a few threads on it. Unfortunately, it is a dead button that does nothing.

Although others here might disagree (including hawgman), I don't see that point either. Get the auto tranny if you can afford it.

Why not mount one of those new-fangled crank starters in the front of your car. That would look awesome. Total 1910's retro.

I'm pretty sure anybody would recognize that you totally meant to flame with your comment. You really should read what I read about my mods because your comment was just plain off base if you intended to imply that they don't make any sense, which that appears to me to be what you were saying.

I DID NOT INTEND TO FLAME.

Does that make sense to anyone else here? Read the words and my posts AGAIN. If I wanted to pick a fight I would have sent a PM directly to (fill in the blank).

My new question is "Why did/do you think it would be cool to put a start button on your car?".

I think the question is to why go out on something like that.. you brought up the chrome wheels.. thats for looks and good.. but 20 inch chrome wheels with bling bling spinners are a bit much. Also the second part is that you still have to use the key.. which is an extra wasted step. Its like putting a butt gasket on your own toilet at home
