i'm 16 too, and i'm paying for my car (for those of you who like to pick on young kids and call them spoiled)- i got the v6 because of insurance... and you'll still "want" a v8, but its not worth it for a kid like us, they're all right. You'll be better off with a 6. Thats plenty fast for us. i dont know if you could GET insurance on the GT even if it is bone stock, its new- and its a v8 sports car. No ones gonna want to cover you, and if they do your car payments will be too much to pay

stick with the 6
Great advice - listen to your peers. AND if your smart, you'll play into good ole' grandpa's good graces (tell him how smart he is, how right about your age driving a v6, etc, etc) and then take him for some conservative spins and by the time your 18, maybe he'll trust you with that GT!!...LOL

My bet is most of your friends will envy you anyway. And if you do feel the need for speed - save up, and then also buy an old muscle car - it's a lot cheaper to build up, maintain, insure, and fix - and the best way to go if you want to get started in racing.

Also, is the upgrade from the shaker 500 that comes with the v6 premium to the 1000 worth it? It seems like you are paying all of the extra for two subs and you could get that a ton cheaper aftermarket.

I have a friend with your setup that runs as fast as my auto GT did stock (9.4 1/8 mile)

He has:

CAI -- $300
Tuner -- $400
3.73 Gears -- $250
Traction Locker -- $250
Exhaust -- $400
Total -- $1650 ish

Course, it's the coolest V6 in town.
Sorry but a V6 with those mods still won't touch a GT.........unless it's a driver issue.

I would get the base GT. It's a much faster car and handles better.

oh yeah, and cops like to f*** with me already because i have a stang asking things like "did you steal this? what is your VIN? what is the exact date you bought this? etc" ...i bet it would be a lot worse if i had a gt...and i bet they would have not let me go w/ just warnings

...my vote stays with the 6er

LOL looks like you've been pulled over a few times already huh Chris? Typical teenager! I have yet to be pulled over in the Mustang...but I'm 50 so know better! I will admit my hubby drives the v6 Mustang a bit too fast as he loves to pass cars in it. He's not the same way on the motorcycle though as nobody seems to see it and they do stupid stuff every day that could have caused an accident. I think he's showing off a bit with the Mustang though when he drives it as it seems to turn heads just being a 05 Mustang and a rare color for this area. Plus it being such a fun car to drive he seems to want to play with it in traffic! I can imagine the trouble a teenager can get into with it. Heck our 20 year old son is not allowed to drive it as we know the stunts he pulls with his truck and crotch rocket bike.

Some of you guys really need to rethink about a teen with his first car getting a GT. Would you trust your own teen with such a car? As I said our youngest is NOT allowed to even move it in the driveway and we make sure no key/remote is left behind at home so he can't "take it for a spin" either!

Matt I applaud you for your smart choice. Lucky you to be even getting a brand spanking new Mustang. My first new car actually was my second car as I was given the used family car, a 68 Oldsmobile Delta 88 that had a sporty look to it back then for my first car. My brand new car I got when I was 19 was the 74 Chevy Nova. I wanted the Mach I Mustang but Dad didn't like the slant of the back window as it was hard to see out of plus he knew insurance would be high on it being a sporty car.

This is what my first car looked alot like same color here

Here's a side view of that Monster

Here's a pic of the 73 Mustang I wanted

And this is my first brand spanking new car 74 Chevy Nova like this one...same color

This is a tough decision. When I was 16 I got my first car, it was the only car that my parents bought for me, all the rest were up to me to make it happen. It was a used 1985 Mustang with a 4 cylinder engine that I got in the mid 90's. I loved the car, partly because it was a Mustang and partly because it was anything with wheels for transportation. It was by no means sporty but did give me good driving experience and was somewhat cool since it was a Mustang. If I had the opportunity to get a V8 back then I don't know if I would have driven it as responsibly, or been able to afford gas, insurance, or upkeep since those were my responsibilities. I know that having that 4 cyl back then made me appreciate the cars I had later and now with my 05 GT. My advice is to go with the V6 since this is your first car, and you are getting it loaded, instead of the V8. You can always trade it in after a few years of driving experience under the belt and get what you want then if the V8 is indeed what you want. Most of your friends probably won't care what you have as long as you give them a ride in it anyways.

Go for the 6 initially. Then a few weeks later give your grandpa the 6. Tell him that you feel that at his age he needs to consider his own safety more than considering yours. Senior citizens having slower reflexes on the road and in general, etc. After some smooth talking, in time im sure that he will be coaxed enough for a sensible trade. Him= The V6. You = Ford GT. Paper work, insure etc all remaining "as is" with nothing changed. Go for it!
