Default LoJack?

My dealer is trying to sell me the LoJack system for $695 for my new Mustang. I have 2 questions. 1) Is this a fair price for LoJack, or would I be better off just buying it later from somebody other than a car dealership. 2) I know that LoJack is probably a usefull device, but it is really saving money for my insuance company, and not me, if my car should be stolen. Will most insurance companies give discounts for LoJack cars?

Thanks

$695 is the price for the lojack from just about everyone. Even their website has it. It's a one time fee. I'm not worried about anyone steal'n my car. I'm more worried about getting keyed. According to their site, in GA, lojack could save you 25% off inusurance, but I haven't checked mine.

People say different stuff saves you money on insurance all the time but you have to check with your agent.

That's about what I paid for mine. It was installed when i picked up the car. I don't have a lot of time to run around and shop for a better deal. To me a few extra bucks is well spent to to save my time and have it all done at once. If you look long enough you can always find someone with a lower price. But you don't necessarily want Bubba tearing your car apart to save $30 bucks.

As far as an insurance discount, you may just want to call you ins co. My car is on my company insurance, so i don't know how much of discount i got (if any). But i would imagine it's not a whole lot.

It's the only anti-theft I have.

I wouldn't call Lo-Jack anti-theft. I would call it theft-recovery.

I got Lojack w/ the early-warning system. Costs about $300 extra but I like the peace of mind in knowing that I get notified if my car is driven without the keyfob present in the car

Yea, good call. I have yet to hear an 'anti-theft' stop anyone from their car getting stolen. once it is, it's gone.

One of the dealers I was shoping tried the same thing. I ended up buying it elsewhere. Does this happen to be a dealer in Bucks County, PA ?

Have you considered any of the GPS/Cell tracking systems instead? They work nationwide 24/7 unlike LoJack. LoJack only works once you report your car stolen. It also only works when a police car that is equiped with the receiver happens to get into the vicinity of your car.

I am considering the one from Mobile Guardian myself (I was quoted $995 by a local Ford dealer):

http://www.mymobileguardian.com/

There is also GeoTracer (I was quoted $500 installed):

http://www.ctpc.com/ATP/vts/geotracer.asp and also http://www.geotracer.net/GeoTracer/product.html

Neither one charges a monthly fee, just a charge per track. They both support SMS/Email/Pager notification of certain criteria (see web sites).

I am leaning towards the MobileGuardian as I you can send a kill signal to your car for the next time it stops in addition their web site seems a little better. I had to work really hard to find the info on the GeoTracer website.

Does anybody have more info about GPS/Cell tracking systems?

I have lojak on my car and it saves me about 20% on my insurance. I know the rep for Southern California and the $700 is a standard price at anytime. Also they come to your work or home to install it. They took 20 minutes and mine was done.
