Question about CAI and Throttle Body combo
I'm thinking about installing a no tune BBK cold air intake and 70 mm throttle body on my 4.0. BBK maintains the items can be installed without a tune. I don't really want to mess with the tune right now because I think ultimately I'm going to have to get a custom tune. The combination of new EPA regs and the fact that other mods will be added just makes a canned tune not worth while for me right now. At any rate, I think the question is obvious. Has anyone tried this combination and did you have any problems with the way the car ran afterward?

A couple of thoughts
1. If it doesn't require a tune then you didn't change anything on the engine and the engine is running as if it stock with all the same flow - so other than "looking pretty" the tuneless intake and throttle body doesn't do anything for the performance
2. On the automatic, the throttle lag is built into the tune so you need to tune it out of the system (I tried that floor the throttle and bring it up easily to "retrain" the sensor but I never noticed any difference in response).

No one has tried this combo because it makes no sense.
A C A I and a T U N E.
Have you tried recalibration of the gas pedal.
That costs nothing and you will get the 'little better response' you desire.

I'm very well aware of how to make an engine faster. If I really wanted more hp I wouldn't dick around with some tune, I would just get a set of stage 3 heads and put a supercharger on the thing. All I'm looking for is a little better throttle response and I know for a fact that I can get that from the BBK.
Its the drive by wire and the parameters in the
stock tune that dull thge throttle response.
Nothing mechanical short of using a throttle cable
to open the TB is gonna do anything about the laggy throttle.
Now a CAI and a tune will remove most of the drive by wire
feel...

I'd forego the TB; they've been more of a hinderance than a benefit on many occasions. If the throttle recalibration procedure doesn't resolve the problem, then I'd put the $$ towards a custom tune from AM or Brenspped in lieu of the canned SCT crap and be done with it.

You can get a better throttle response without changing the CAI and throttle body - you have to change the tune

The "tune" is the computers way of managing engine parameters.
