Just to correct this you don't want to drive with the 89 tune when your car is still running on 87. Make sure you run through the 87 before loading the other tune. On the other hand it's fine to run 89 with the 87 octane tune. Never run a higher octane tune than what is in the tank.

Thanks for all of the great feedback, everyone! I'm glad we're doing something right!

As for octane, you definitely want to make sure that you're running a higher octane fuel or equal octane fuel in the tank to what you have loaded into the vehicle. Never vice versa.

Even at that, if you were to get bad gas, or if you simply don't have a low octane tune (and you're not somewhere you can call us to get one sent and loaded) - have no fear. When the car is just driving normally (part throttle) without being aggressive, the timing really is close enough where the car will not detonate or ping. It will detonate/ping at mid-full throttle. That's where you should be concerned.

Yep. I ran 87 octane on an 89 tune until I had 3/4 87 and filled up with 1/4 93. I kept it under 2500 RPM until that tank was totally burned off though.
