I know the 12v accessory plug in the dash is hot at all times but I have little doubt that you could change the power source to one that's hot only with the ignition on.

The one in the center console stays hot aswell.

Try to roll start it and see if the terrible noise is still there.
If not, its the starter gone bad...

Ah, that puts my mind at rest. thanks, cause my main concern was if my car would have a drained battery one morning.
