We had an '06 v6 vert. I did a shifter, GT sways, 3.55 8.8 axle, C&L intake & tune - and it still wasn't as good as a GT. That cologne v6 is 44 years old. When it got totalled, there was no way I was going to mod another v6 that much, so I went shopping for a late 08 GT vert.

They were so expensive, we just ordered a new v6 and used the xplan.

Don't buy a 4.0 v6, buy a v8. Its a much better caar all around.

Still miss that Legend Lime though...

What is the hp rating of the 4.0 V6? Is it 210 hp?

210 at the crank but less than that at the rear wheels of course.

Probably 180ish-hp at the rear tires. And the v6 get the T5 instead or the much better TR3650. Even with a shifter a v6 is much harder to shift than a GT. That said, however, we loved our V6.

Ford phased out the 4.0 in favor of the new 3.7 Duratec engines. That being said the 4.0 is a proven workhorse being an updated version of the Ford Taurus 3.8 sohc V6. There are some performance mods you can do for the 4.0 mostly updating to true dual exhaust, CAI and tune.
But if you want to keep up with the jones then I still say grab a 3.7 V6 or 5.0 V8...better yet, test drive them all and get back to us and tell us what you think.

Ditto this!
also, a 4.6 has much better exhaust sound!

V8 all the way. Test drove a V8 then went to try out a V6. Didn't even drive a mile in the V6 before I decided on the V8. And everyday since then I'm so happy I made the decision I did for a V8.

Thanks all for your responses. I rode in my co workers 2011 GT Cali Special the other day and with a CAI, tune and Flowmasters - that thing is a beast! I don't have 28-34k to throw down on a car though... I may look at the 3.7 when I start shopping... I want the 2011+ with at least the 3.7 (or of course the 5.0) - love the 05 thru 09 styling but I also love the upgraded interiors.

I picked up a new base V6 manual for $19.2, sticker was $23.x something. There are lots of people getting base V6's for under $20k. Don't let the window sticker scare you, talk that crap down! A 05-09 GT with reasonable miles will cost about $16k. Just depends what you want. I'd go with (and did) the new car. The V6 really moves and sounds fantastic.

You would need mods for sure going from a cobra. you would be in for gears, cai/tune, etc and still be wanting since you've had more before... Go for the GT.
